[Facts] Geziena
I need some help finding the meaning of "Geziena". I saw it on two gravestones of some relatives of mine, and I'm curious as to anyone would have any info about the name.I think the name is Dutch (that's where my family is originally from), and it's a female name, but that's about all I know.Any info is appeciated. Thanks,
Wilwarin (aka Vanessa)

Andy's right - much nicer than Gertie, too!I don't know what's happening in Dutch naming circles, but here in South Africa it's hardly used at the moment. Had its day, though - in the nineteenth century, mostly, when the President of the South African Republic, Paul Kruger, married a woman called Gezina: the capital of his little country was Pretoria, and one of its suburbs is called Gezina to this day, in her honour.

If it is Dutch, I should think it's the same as German GESINA. This is an elaboration on GESA, a Frisian pet form of GERTRUD.Andy ;—)
