[Opinions] Jessica
I need some help with an assignment for school. We are supposed to talk about our name and why we were named as we were, etc. One of the questions asks how people react to your name. I think that means what impression does that name give, what assumptions do people make when they hear that name. So I'm asking you! What do you think of the name Jessica and what kind of person do you imagine Jessica being? Don't be afraid of offending me or anything, I'm honestly just curious. Thanks!

Thanks for your input everyone! I loved all your ideas and honestly I agree with them (even the flighty ones!). If anyone's curious, I'm a studious brunette, aged nineteen. I was named after the Allman Brother's Band song, Jessica. This has helped with my project! Thanks everyone :)

Jessica is a bit of a blank slate of a name. It is so popular and isn't even tied to a particular socio-economic bracket. I imagine the parents of a Jessica to be not so interested in the study of names at all, to be fairly straightforward, 'everyday' people. Jessica is a bit of a cheerleader name to a lot of people, but it has always been a fair bit more decent that the Ashley and Brittany types it is unfairly lumped in with.

Initially I think of someone attractive in looks and personality. Other than that I couldn't say because I know far too many of them.

No offense, but I know so many Jessica's. Most of them are like this:Loud, out-spoken, pretty, pampered, bubbly, vindictive at times.
This one just happens to be the one out of that whole Jessica Ashley Samantha Michelle Nicole group that was popular around the time of my birth I have the most negitave associations with.

I like the name Jessica, but I wouldn't use it because it was so popular in my generation. I imagine Jessica being about 18-22 years old, a kind and friendly person, with wavy light brown hair and blue eyes.

Born in the 80s.
Has at least two friends named Ashley.
Perhaps a little airheady, flighty, and self-involved (you said you wouldn't be offended!)Jess, on the other hand is calm, cool, unfazed. She's a together gal who couldn't care less what everyone else thinks.

I like it! I used to dislike it because I grouped it with Melissa, Jennifer, etc., but after I read Dune I started liking it :) I don't really compare it to Jennifer any more; I like that Jessica has softer sounds and "nice" vibes.
I'd expect a Jessica to be nice, mature, and pretty in a "regular person" way. Probably pretty competent at anything, but not absolutely amazing at any particular thing or skill.
ETA: Oh and it's also my cousin's name ("Jess")

Honestly I don't hve much of a clear impression. I was born in the early 80's when the name was super popular & I have known a ton so no one clear image emerges.
It is an ok name just overused. I picture a brunette between the ages of 22-32.

I agree. I don't really get a clear impression because I've met so many. It strikes me as a generic name. I've met blonde girls named Jessica and can definitely see it working for a blonde girl, but I think a brunette comes to mind first.I like the sound of it, but it's way overused.

Jessica is very dated to the 80's for me. I think of a tall, willowy girl that is into the latest fashions and the popular music of the day.
