I'm crushing on this brief, zappy name currently. What do you think of Ray? I'm fond of it on its own, but would most people assume it would be short for Raymond?
Help me think of some fun, quirky combos for Ray. I want something that makes its outdated kitsch shine, not flop.
Also I was browsing the comments on the name and found a winner. beethoven, maybe you want to add this to your collection:

Ray is a family name for me, so I might use it. None of the Rays in my family are named Raymond. My grandfather's name is similar to Ray Conley [Surname], and his aunt and uncle are Doris Ray and Ray Edwin. Most people do assume it's short for Raymond, but they learn!

Ray Leslie is my grandpa's full name, and I'm glad my dad didn't get the mn too. I think people would assume it's short for something, or a filler mn (Rae seems to be one here). It could be short for Raylee (m) or Rayleigh (f), Rachel (usually Rae), and Raelynn (also, Rae imo). Names that start with that are

The guy who runs it has - or used to - a column dedicated to Waynes because of how common it was in the crime section. Obviously Ray Wayne doesn't flow - too bad, really. :-D
Anyway, I prefer Roy to Ray, purely due to association. Ray reminds me of a swarmy, aviator sunglasses wearer, probably into real estate. Roy reminds me of a farmer with a wicked sense of humor. As for Ray as a nn for Raymond - not likely, at least not now. (Although I love Raymond)
