[Opinions] Smith ?
What do you think of Smith as a boys first name? I am not usually a fan of last names as first names but I love the old-fashioned feel of Smith.

Having grown up with Smith as a last name, I don't know how I really feel about it being used as a first name. I think the idea of giving a son his mother's maiden name as a name is a sweet idea, but only if the name really works as a first name. I think that it could be unique as a first name, because all the other Smiths he runs into will have Smith as a last name. But I think that because the name is so common as a last name it just doesn't work all that well in the first name position. I feel the same way about Jones or Brown. I agree that Smith does have a great old-fashioned feel though. I have it as my middle name now, since I grew up without one. I think Smith would be great as a middle name over a first name. But it's definitely one of the best last names a person could have. :)

I don't like it. I'm not usually a fan of surnames as first names. Although I must admit, Smith as a first name is more appealing than some surnames.

Not sure how I'd feel about it on a real kid, but I kind of like it. For me it's very academian because I associate it with Smith Burnham, who was a professor back in the day at my university and my dorm was named after him. I really like names that have an academic feel.
