[Opinions] Halo
What are your thoughts on Halo as a name? As a GP? Also, would you consider it feminine or masculine? I saw someone with this name on TV last night. I'm not saying I like it, but I did want to see what others here thought.

I like the word and the imagery that goes along with it (I think of moon haloes), but I think it's kind of hard to take it seriously as a first name despite wanting to like it. It seems more feminine to me. It basically falls under the same category as Tiara in my mind. I like it better than Tiara, but it still lacks substance and strikes me as a little on the fragile princess side. The fact that it's the name of a popular video game also makes it seem a little odd as a first name plus I can imagine it being used as a stripper name.I prefer Ayla, Aylin, and Hala, which have "halo" meanings, rather than Halo as a first name.

I think the video game association is very strong, and now I've got that Beyonce song stuck in my head :p I don't care for it as a name. As a GP, anything goes though, right ;)I would think of it as more feminine, I suppose.

I'm fan of the video game. So I can't think of it as name only as a thing.

I dislike the name. To me, it's headgear and a video game. It sounds like a created masculine variant of Halle or Hayley, so I can see it being a GP for someone.

A girl I know had a kitten named Halo, and as soon as I saw it it sparked a little GP for me.I definitely see it as feminine, and I'm not sure if it would get past GP stage (if it did, it would only make it to middle name - unless of course DH says so!).I do associate it with the game and Beyonce, neither of which I favour greatly, but as a GP ... For the sound and the meaning of the actual word, and not the associations, I really like it.

I know someone who knows someone who has a son called Halo. I think it's a little out there, but it's not so bad; it doesn't sound too far away from things like Arlo and Hugo. And if the kid lives in a place where a lot of people have unusual word names - which the Halo I know of does - it'd probably barely raise an eyebrow. I'd consider it unisex, I guess.

I didn't even think of the video game, but a lot of people would. I just think it'd be really unfortunate if the kid really was a good-two-shoes type and got made fun of. Or it they were really horrid and it turned out to be ironic. I'm not such a fan of word-names, in general - mostly for this reason. I'd think girl. Sidenote: I could see it as a name for a baby that was stillborn or something. Then it'd be meaningful.

I could see it as a MN. It'd be a cute MN. As a FN, it's too video-gamey and fantasyesque. My first thought would be "girl".as a FN, I like Aura quite a lot for a girl.

It makes me think of "Halo", a beautiful song by Beyonce. However, it also makes me think of a violent video game that I hate. I don't like Halo as a first name.I once saw a birth announcement for a girl named Halo Grace. I thought it was weird.

A video gameI don't like it... [that is I don't like it as a name, not that I don't like the game]

I thought about Halo as a name a while back actually. I like it for a boy and a girl. I think it's interesting and I also think of the song Halo by Beyoncé. I probably wouldn't use it IRL, but that's what The Sims are for...

I think of two things:1. The parents must be super religious, OR2. They must be video game nuts.Sorry, but I don't think it's usable.
