I love Andromeda :) Ann or Annie would be adorable nn's. I think it's also totally useable; connections to astrology and mythology be damned. Just because something has a connection to something else doesn't mean it shouldn't be used.
I've also thought of using Andromeda before, and ended up of thinking of how many different nicknames could derive from it. There's Ann/Annie/Ana/Anna, and Andy. I also think Etta (or maybe an alternative spelling like possibly Edda) could be used
