Help[Games] Kingdom Congrats Round 1 - Sign-Ups Still Welcome!
A year has passed since the sign-up round (btw - i'll update ages for you all!). There have been whispers between the commoners in the streets of Val Royeaux that supporters of Prince Philippe plan to revolt against King Leopold. Philippe has not instigated this, but niether is he doing anything to discourage the unrest. It will likely not amount to anything and is not the first time these whispers have been heard, and won't be the last either as many view Leopold as too weak to sit on the throne. To which brother to your loyalties lie?

Benedicte and Daphne's loyalties lie with the king as they always will. They are pleased with the birth of their new son, and because of their devotion to the king and queen, the queen graciously allows Edmond to be taken care of together with the new princess so Daphne can still work. Edmond is an adorable little baby.

Henry was the son of an English Lord and Lady. He grew up in the English Court. When he was 21, his parents arranged a marriage to Mary-Agnes Hastings, the daughter of fellow dignitaries and a family friend. Henry wasn't in love with her, but Mary-Agnes was very attractive. A year later, Henry was sent to Orlais to represent England, and of course Mary-Agnes came with him.
Mary-Agnes was very excited to come to Orlais. She was not in love with Henry, and she's heard that the men of Orlais are very handsome. When they arrived at Court, she noticed one in particular she liked. Even though he was married and his wife was pregnant, Prince Joseph was extremely handsome and Mary-Agnes set her sights on him immediately. She almost felt guilty about lying with the Prince while his wife was giving birth, but her guilt was quickly errased.
One of Mary-Agnes's favorite things to do is gossip, and her new favorite topic is the Descoteaux family. Mary-Agnes quickly learned about the supposed rebelion of the supporters of Prince Philippe, and was very quick to spread the gossip like wildfire. She's not sure exactly what her place will be at Court, but she's very excited to find out.

Henry has advised her to keep her mouth shut about such things, but Mary-Agnes won't listen to her husband. She feels Henry is too naive and boring.
A few months after she slept with Prince Joseph while Princess Diana was in labor, Mary-Agnes discovered she was with child. She wasn't sure if it was the legitimate child of her husband, or the bastard of the Prince. She decided not to tell her husband that the baby might be Joseph's until the child gets older.
When Mary-Agnes finally gave birth to a baby girl, Henry was elated. However, Mary-Agnes secretly wished to give Prince Joseph a son. They decided to name their daughter Jocelyn which had been a favorite of Mary-Agnes's, Elizabeth after Henry's mother, and Frances after Mary-Agnes's mother.
So far, the girl has dark brown hair like Mary-Agnes (and Joseph) and green eyes like Henry. It's up in the air as to whether Jocelyn's father is a Prince, but Mary-Agnes plans to raise the little girl like royalty regardless.

She felt alright for most of them, but by summertime the baby had grown so large that petite Anne could barely move from her bed and spent her days in an armchair. On especially hot days, she would have her servants take the chair to the wine cellar and hobble herself slowly down there on the arms of her maids to sit in the shady coolness of the cellar. Her father disapproved of such erratic behavior, but Henri only laughed and carried his wife back up the steep stairs into the house.
Throughout Anne's pregnancy, Henri took trips into Val Royeaux. Their duchy is not far from the capital, but his sometimes extended absences made Anne anxious and she begged him to stay at home. Rumors of a revolt against King Leopold in favor of Prince Phillipe reached the Albret estate, causing many differing opinions to be voiced amongst the staff and residents. Anne's father, Guillaume, was especially vocal against the rebels and pledged himself loudly to stand behind the King. Anne, for her part, has no solid opinion. She remembers both brothers from her childhood. Leopold was gentle and kind to her, a sweet boy who would often bring treats and presents to Juliette and her friends. Phillipe, on the other hand, was much more fun to play with, as he was a strong rider and a happy, laughing boy. Anne had to admit that she had been a bit enamored with Phillipe's charismatic presence when she was a young ignorant girl.
Henri is quietly not involving himself in the rumors. Anne finds this very wise of him, since he is the newest duke in Orlais. It is better for him to cast his lot with no one and instead, be there in the end to side with the victors. Treason would ruin his duchy and his young family, but so would being on the losing side of a revolt. He does not even express his opinion to Ninon, a fact that makes her somewhat suspicious.

Jemima, Gus's little sister, is thrilled to have a baby nephew in the household. Being the youngest of the Eldridges, Jemima never knew what it was like to have a younger sibling. Now, she not only gets to be the aunt of one, she gets to live with her nephew and act like a big sister to baby Pip. Gemma is really excited to be a mother to her baby boy, Philip Leandro Eldridge.

Clementine works hard to keep her various affairs from her sister and brother in law. Clementine knows where her sisters loyaltys lie but also knows she is probe to gossip. Delphi spent most of her time occupied with the new baby and although Clementines purpose was to be governess Delphi has barely depart Maëlys is side. After several happy months of wedded life, Élisabeth discovered she was pregnant. She was frightened after what happened to dear Juliette, but she was excited as well. Maurice was overjoyed, toasting to his child and the continuation of the Durant line. All of Élisabeth's cousins except Cécile were expecting children as well, and it was fun to sit with Ninon, Valentina, and Joséphine discussing names and selecting materials for baby clothes. She missed Bella, who was also expecting, dreadfully during this time, and the two wrote as often as possible. She also spent a great deal of time with Diana, who is dreadfully lonely becaue of Joseph's behavior. The entire family is furious with Joseph for his behavior, but he has never listened to Élisabeth at the best of times. She and he love one another of course, but every time Élisabeth has ever tried to give him advice he has always just called her bossy and laughed her off. She has asked Maurice to help her "brother-cousins" in turnign him around. Maurice is such a sensible and considerate man she knows he couldn't help having a good influence on him.

The entire family is furious with Joseph for his behavior, but he has never listened to Élisabeth at the best of times. She and he love one another of course, but every time Élisabeth has ever tried to give him advice he has always just called her bossy and laughed her off. She has asked Maurice to help her "brother-cousins" in turnign him around. Maurice is such a sensible and considerate man she knows he couldn't help having a good influence on him.

His last promise to his dying father was that he would keep Orlais safe, and he is determined to keep that promise.
The year did have its beautiful and happy moments, though. Not too long after Leopold and Joséphine celebrated their first year of marriage, they were overjoyed to find they had been blessed with a pregnancy. Leopold would never tell Joséphine, but he was hoping for a boy, an heir to his throne, who he would name Charles after his beloved father. The pregnancy was a difficult one, and there were many moments where they thought that they may lose their most wished for child. Joséphine was constantly ill, and when she was not being sick, she was most pale and very frail. Leopold was fraught with fear at the thought of losing both his dear Joséphine and their unborn baby. Thankfully, after three months of total bedrest for the queen, their child was born in an uncomplicated labour completely opposite to the stressful pregnancy. A daughter, who they named Liliane Juliette Augustine Myriam, after her mother, grandmother, aunt and grandfather. Leopold, even though he had wanted a son, could not hold back his joy. Nothing he had experienced in the world thus far compared to the pure elation he felt when holding his baby daughter with his queen by his side. Liliane was a happy baby who hardly cried, and was doted on by everyone in the castle. Liliane (often referred to as Lili for short) was a beautiful baby, with soft honey blonde hair and the striking green eyes of her mother.

Penny is not sure whether or not to believe the rumors, but is cautious all the same, whereas Absalon is keeping very alert to anything out-of-the-ordinary going on around the castle.
Meanwhile, Penny was overjoyed when she learned that she was pregnant. Absalon and Penny eagerly awaited the birth of their firstborn. Some time later, Penny went into labor and gave birth to a beautiful, blonde-haired, little girl, whom they named Lily Kaitlyn: Lily after Penny's mother and Kaitlyn after Absalon's grandmother.
A few weeks after Lily was born, Absalon was out at his post on the castle wall, like he usually was. However, something a bit unusual happened. From day one of their marriage, it has been clear to Diana that Joseph does not wish to be married to her and is only using her for his own pleasure. One night, about a week after their wedding, Joseph said to Diana "The only good thing about marrying you, is that now I get to sleep with you." Diana feels hopeless and trapped in her loveless marriage. For the first months, Diana's only happiness came from her cousin Valentina. She was the only one Diana felt she could trust.
A few months after her wedding, Diana discovered she was pregnant. She had hoped that this unborn child would be Joseph's catalyst to change. During the pregnancy, Diana took care of the unborn baby as best as she could. She finally gave birth in January to a healthy, happy, baby boy. Joseph was thrilled at first to have a son, and immediately named the boy after himself. Diana took this to mean that Joseph would finally start to accept responsibility. She was sadly mistaken. It was rumored that while Diana was giving birth to her son, Joseph was in the bedchamber of an unnamed young lady. At the celebration of little Joseph's birth, his father (Prince Joseph I) had passionately kissed his mistress, one of Diana's ladies in waiting, in front of the whole Royal Family and Court. Humiliated, Diana retired from the party early and spent the rest of the evening with her son.
Since her cousin Valentina just had a boy the same age as little Joseph, Diana has been spending all of her time with Valentina, little Joseph, and Valentina's baby Thibault.

Princess Bella's first year of marriage has for the most part been a happy one. She has rather a lot of freedom in the palace and spends much of her time in the palace library reading her books. Occasionally when Fredericks schedule and the weather allows the two go out horseriding in the countryside, both enjoy an easy relationship and Frederick dotes on Bella. When Bella discovered she was expecting both Frederick and Bella were overjoyed though Bella was worried remembering all too clearly the fate of her sister. The pregnancy went smoothly however
and all too soon Frederick and Bella welcomed their first child, a daughter! On hearing she had given birth to a girl Bella had been worried about Fredericks reaction knowing he would of course want a son, however he didn't appear at all upset and the country rejoiced on the birth of the baby princess. The baby was named Julietta for Bella's mother and sister and Erika for her father, Beatrice and Anne were added by Frederick for his grandmother and aunt. Little Julietta is the apple of her parents eye she is such a sweet happy little baby she has the most beautiful blue eyes imaginable and a head full of dark brown hair.
Bella received a letter from Elisabeth informing her some of the citizens of Val Royeaux are planning a revolt against her brother King Leopold. They want to place Philippe as King in favour of Leopold. Bella was grieved by this news and begged Frederick to allow her to return home desperate to do something to discourage these plans, however Frederick argued that she was in no state to travel so far so soon after Julietta's birth and forbade her to leave. Instead Bella was forced to write to Philippe begging him to do something to prevent a revolt. Although Bella knows Philippe would make a great King, she worries for the safety of Leopold if the plan was to go ahead.

The war with France had ended only three years ago, and Orlais was still recovering so a revolt was poor timing if nothing else, Orlais was too vulnerable. At the same time however, Philippe had to agree with his supporters that Leopold was too king, too gentle, too weak, to be an effective ruler. He was fine during times of peace that was true, the people loved him and he was fair and just... But during arduous times, he was not strong enough to make the hard decisions with the same effectiveness that Philippe himself could. Despite this though, Philippe was torn because he did love his brother and didn't want to hurt him if it was avoidable. Philippe knew he should act to settle the people, but it was a stern letter from Bella that finally made him realise that he'd allowed it go on too long. He spread word through the people using contacts with a few of his more prominent supporters that it was not the time and to keep the peace, thus stemming the revolt for now.
During of this turmoil however, there was one very good thing that happened to Philippe when he and Valentina welcomed their first child, a son they named Thibault, whom was named for his father, grandfather & Philippe's dear departed sister Juliette. Philippe is naturally thrilled to have a son and heir, and is head over heels in love with his tiny son. Over the course of their first year of marriage, he and Valentina had fallen deeply in love, and baby Thibault was the culmination of that love.
Unfortunately, not everyone was as happy in their marriages as he and Valentina were.
