hate it
Know a girl named it and never liked her so she kind of ruined any chance I ever had at liking the name.

It's nice but I wouldn't use it, it's a bit too unusual and a tad pretentious.
It's lovely. I'd consider it as a middle name.
It's my birthstone. I think Amethyst makes a beautiful name, but it's a little too "out there" for me to consider using.
Ever since I was young and read "The Ordiary Princess " I've had a soft spot for this name.
I had a student named Amethyst last semester. I'd never seen it in real life, only in one of my favorite children's books ("The Ordinary Princess"). All the kids in Amethyst's family had really weird names. She even told me that her grandmother didn't know how to pronounce them when they were little. To me, it's still a princessy name (from the book), even though the student was very Hispanic.
I would definitely use it as a mn.
Hmm, it'd be strictly GP for me, and as a result I'd probably only ever use it in the middle name slot. I like it a lot better than Topaz though.
I'm not such a fan of Amethyst. And I'd feel very sorry for the kid (girl I imagine) if she happened to have a lisp.
