Zaida used to be my favorite Arabic name before Anisa recently overtook it. I still really love it, though. What do you think of the name Zaida?

I like the way it sounds but I prefer the spelling Zeta. I know a woman named Zeta. I do know that they are two different names with two different etymologies, but, hey, they sound exactly the same and I like the way Zeta looks much more. But if one is looking for an Arabic name in particular, then I can understand going for Zaida rather then Zeta.

How do you pronounce Zaida and Zeta?
Just asking because I admittedly don't know how to pronounce Zeta in English (I'm guessing ZEE-tə) but I'm pretty sure it's not said zah-EE-dah or zah-EE-də which is how I'd pronounce Zaida.

I pronounce both Zeta and Zaida ZAY-dah. The Zeta I know pronounces her name ZAY-dah. Perhaps I'm wrong, or in a very small minority, in pronouncing Zaida ZAY-dah, but I look at it and that's what I think. This site isn't helpful in this regard, as it doesn't give a pronunciation of Zaida.

I like Zaida. I thought maybe I could convince my husband of it's greatness, as an alternative to Sadie (which he does not like). But the look of it makes me wonder if it would feel like the Aidans, Braydons, Cadens, Jaydens, and the like. Clearly it's not technically related, but the same sound is certainly there. If I'm pronouncing it right, anyhow. And I don't like Zeta at all. Oh well, my husband hates it anyhow, so I'll never have to decide. :o)

Something very like it, which I can't remember how to spell, is Yiddish for 'grandfather'. Can't say I'm keen on it: most Z names seem to be trying too hard.
