I've always liked Jemima, and as time passes I find I am liking it more. What do you think of it? Is it really tainted beyond use in the U.S. due to the Aunt Jemima character, and if so, would it still be considered so awful as a middle name?

I don't plan to relocate to America, but I also would like to avoid ever using any name seen as so funny in the first name spot if I could help it. Unpopular, sure, but not with specific negative ties.

I LOVE the name Jemima, but can't use it as it's too similar to my DS's name Jasper. Also, my DH is not very fond of it. There are plenty of combos that I like/love from the lists, but I'll make a Top 5 for fn and mn I think! Today they would be:

I love Jemima! I wish it was more usable in the US, where I live. That being said, I think you could get away with it over here, but if it were me, I'd be hesitant to use it. As a middle name, I say totally go for it, though.

I love Jemima and I'm trying to decide whether or not the Aunt Jemima character has tainted it beyond repair. (I'm American, and always have been.) One minute I think yes, the next I think no. I'm leaning towards no right now. I hate it when an association renders a name unusable. I think all it would take, in America, would be a few hardy souls to use Jemima and it could rise above the happy slave connotation. Maybe it can happen. I'm holding my breath waiting.

Jemima Victoria is gorgeous.

I love Jemima, and I've never actually heard of Aunt Jemima until now. However, Jemima does remind me of Jemima the doll from Play School, which I think would be true for many children where I live who grew up watching Play School.

I think Jemima Victoria is very pretty though.

Love Jemima. It's one of my favourite girls names, and I could easily use it for a daughter IRL one day. Jemima nn Jem.

I'm an Aussie (where Jemima crops up in the BA's quite regularly) living in Europe, so I know nothing of the Aunt Jemima asociation. It doesn't bother me. I don't know how bad/strong the asociation is in the US, but anywhere else I think Jemima is just fine. Pretty sure its fairly popular in the UK & Aus.
