I do find it very dated. I know 2 Dorothy's & the younger is nearly 60.
It could be ready for a revival. My first thought is Wizard of Oz, of course.
I don't like the nickname Dottie. I find it very dated & just not the most attractive sound. And Dottie is very A League of Their Own-not really a bad association.
As nicknames, I like Dorie/Dory and Dora. They feel old fashioned but closer to today's style. And Dolly could work on the right girl. I also like Dora on it's own.
