I'm sorry, but I hate the name Maud. It sounds so ugly and harsh to me.

Maud reminds me of that silver-haired, manly woman that is on Golden Girls. It is quite a different name. Not sure if I personally like it.
Picking a good name to go with it depends a lot on the last name. What would the last name be?
Maud would make a good middle name, if the first and last names are multi-syllablic.

Lol, yes the name Maude has that unfortunate attachment to the sitcom and its character of the same name. Though I liked the television show, it's too bad that Maude picked up that 'sarcastic, old lday' stigma because it really is a charming name. But things like that happen. :)
The last name would be four-syllables and I really haven't decided on a first name yet, but with Maud as a MN, the first first name would most likely contain multi-syllables.

I love the name Maud, a variant of Matilda by the way. Since Queen Alexandra's dd was Maud (or Maude?) they work very well together in my mind. Hmm, let's see what else might work:
Maud Frances
Maud Ursula
Maud Alice
Maud Imelda
Maud Edith
Maud Augusta
Maud Philippa
Maud Olympia
Maud Octavia
Maud Louisa
Maud Eloise
Maud Leonie
Maud Lucretia
Maud Honoria
Maud Letitia
Maud Calpurnia
Maud Drusilla
Maud Cornelia
Maud Aurelia
Maud Astraea
Maud Sylvia
Maud Gwendolen
Maud Rowena
Maud Angharad
Maud Eudoxia

Lol, once again, Bear, you never fail to do wonders to cater to my fancies of old-fashioned name combos and royal references. :)
Let's see...
I adore:
Maud Beatrice
Maud Eugenia
Maud Theodora
Maud Prudence
Maud Eloise
Maud Olympia (one of my closet-favourite names)
Maud Augusta
Maud Frances (this one made me do a double-take, lol. Very nice.)
Maud Aurelia
Hmmm... Old English reference... Are you referring to the Stephanie who married William of Burgundy? That's the only Old English reference I can think of at the moment. I think she lived sometime around 1200? Maybe a little earlier?

Glad you liked them!
The Maud Stephanie reference is difficult.
Matilda (sometimes called Maud) and her cousin Stephen vied for the English throne one generation after William the Conqueror (1066). Puting the warring cousins together was just a bad joke on my part.
I never knew there was a real Princess Stephanie. You're knowledge is more detailed than mine. Fun!

Wow, I never thought of Matilda and Stephen! It wasn't a bad joke at all. :) It's quite funny now that I've figured out the Maud Stephanie reference. :) I'm going to have to do a bit of research to catch up.
As for the other Stephanie who married William of Burgundy, she also had a daughter named Maud. I thought she was the one to whom you were referring. But I'm quite tickled that you referenced the warring cousins, lol. I learn something new every day.

Problem here is that I don't like Alexandra.
Maud on the other hand I really like, and I think I prefer it without the e.
You've been given so many nice ones with Maud as MN, I'll try with FN, sorry if I repeat already posted ones, can't keep track of all.
Maud Amelia / Amalia
Maud Alice (I don't like Alice, but I thought it sounded nice)
Maud Beatrice
Maud Charlotte / Charlotte Maud
Maud Cecilia
Maud Elizabeth / Elisabeth
Maud Ellen
Maud Esmeralda ( hm, maybe not)
Maud Gwyneth
Maud Gwendolyn / Gwendolen
Maud Hannah
Maud Harriet
Maud Helena
Maud Ivy
Some other: Agatha, Agnes, (Alma- like it but not sure with Maud), Anwen, Bethany, Caitlin, Edith, Edna, Evelyn, Imelda, Imogen, Juliet, Livia, Olwen, Philippa

I love how you give feedback to everyone! Maud's ok but it's not quite my cup of tea lol. I think both Maud Alexandra and Alexandra Maud sound great and either way is good! I think I slightly like Alexandra Maud better though. I think to me it sounds better as a mn, just because I can't find any that fit well behind it.
Liliana Maud
Felicity Maud
Charlotte Maud
Gabriella Maud
Gabriella Maud
Maud Imogen
Imogen Maud
Svetlana Maud
Maud Yelizaveta
Maud Rozaliya
Magarita Maud
Maud Elizabeth
Ileana Maud
I think out of those Liliana Maud and Ileana Maud are my faves.
I hope I helped!

Thatnk you for your kind words. I always try to show people that I do indeed read their messages and consider their opinions and suggestions.
And it's quite all right that Maud isn't your cup of tea. :) I admit that it's not for everyone.
I think that I may like Alexandra Maud slightly better, too. It just sounds right to me.
Maud Imogen sounds great! Once again, I've overlooked the subtle beauty of Imogen. Charlotte Maud and Felicity Maud all sound great, too. I'm going to take note of those. Liliana Maud sounds delightful and a little playful. I'll keep that one in mind.
Yes, you most certainly helped. :) Thanks!

I think Imogen is such a lovely name. It's good it's not too popular but I hope it doesn't get totally forgotten. It's great I helped! I hope you can find the perfect combo for Maud!

I like it spelt Maude. But either way, I like to see it revived! I admit I wouldn't want to be a young Maud myself, but it's cool for someone else's child.
It's so hard to find middle names that flow with 1-syllable first names. But you've worked it with Alexandra, because it's so long. You could also try ...
Maud Ambrosia
Maud Eliana
Maud Emmanuelle
Maud Peninnah (But mind, Peninnah Maude sounds much nicer.)
Maud Octavia
You could even take a twist on Alexandra, like Alexandria, Alexandrina :-)
Definitely go with typically 'pretty', since Maud isn't that.

I agree that finding MNs for one-syllable FNs is a difficult task. I love the name Rose and outside of Elizabeth, I couldn't find any other names that I liked as MNs.
Maud Ambrosia sounds interesting. I'll have to keep that one in mind. I've never shown Ambrosia much interest before, but I'm kind of liking it here.
I like Maud Penina (I prefer this spelling. I tend to like that short and sweet versions :)). That could definitely work.

I prefer Maude. How about Maud Olivia or Olivia Maud? I usually detest Olivia, but I actually think it sounds pretty and fresh with Maud. I also think Maud needs something a little more frilly to compliment it. I also like both Maud Alexandra and Alexandra Maud.

I could only spell it with an E--after all, the Maude of Maudes, Dame Marjorie Chardin (http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/5862/harold.htm). I absolutely love the name, due to her. It's sweet and old and wonderful and quoteable--and just generally good.
I think that I would like something equally old but more elaborate with the name Maude. Maude Alexandra works, but I'm not a big fan of Alexandra. Here are names I would like with it:
Maude Ophelia
Maude Faustina
Maude Thalia
Maude Renata
Maude Penelope
Maude Petronella
Maude Peronel
Maude Regina
Maude Winifred
Maude Georgina
Maude Veronica
Maude Cleone
Maude Ursula / Ursule
Maude Victoire
Maude Serafina
Maude Andromeda :D
Maude Araminta
Maude Alberta
Maude Albina
Maude Teratia
Maude Heloise
Maude Bernadette
Maude Anneli
Array
"Phineas. That's an interesting name."
"Yeah. It's Latin for 'kick me'."

I can definitely see why you prefer the spelling Maude. :) The extra 'E' is admittedly a bit too frilly for me. I think there was once a time in which I preferred the 'Maude' spelling but somewhere along the way, the 'E' got dropped.
Of the names you've listed, I like Maud Victoire and Maud Georgina, though I'm not too quick to ignore Maud Faustina, being a fan of von Göthe's Faust.
