A lot has changed in the past five years for the Thompson family. Two years ago, Darcy and Justice were driving to a football game together when they were hit by a drunk driver. Justice was killed on impact, and Darcy spent two months in the hospital recovering. The family was devastated, but slowly recovered. They still aren't fully healed, but in the past year some joyful things have happened. Catie married her long-time boyfriend Henry three months ago. Wil and Bekah also had the opportunity to adopt a ten year old girl named Addie nine months ago. Addie was abused by her parents and struggles with some learning disabilities.

Catie graduated from college last year with her degree in Education. She now teaches in a nearby school district and loves her job--and her third graders. Her husband, Henry, is also a teacher, but he teaches secondary science classes at the high school. The two of them live in a small house about twenty minutes away from Wil and Bekah.
Darcy, 20, is in his freshman year of college. Due to the accident with his brother, he wanted to stay at home for awhile to recover both physically and emotionally. He feels really guilty that his little brother died and not him, but he's been working on overcoming that. Darcy wants to study sports medicine and work with athletes. He has also taken up rock climbing in the past two years and finds that it is actually a therapeutic activity for him.
Annie is 19. She is forever grateful that the Thompson family adopted her and her son. She has told Denver that she is his biological mother, but that he should look to Bekah to be his real mommy. Annie wants to have more kids again someday, but isn't sure she wants to be in a relationship just yet. She is also in her freshman year of college. She has decided to become a social worker, and is attending community college so she can be close to the family.

Two years ago Colm & Una had the opportunity to adopt a little boy and are so pleased their little Euan is growing fast and fitting into their family well. He just completes their family and is well loved by his sibling.
Just last week Arabella announced her engagement to Duncan MacCallum, a guy she met while studying for a year in Scotland. They continued a long distance courtship through the summer and are making plans to get married in about a year's time. Colin & Una were overjoyed when Duncan asked for Arabella's hand. They are sad their daughter is going to live all the way in Scotland but they are happy for her and looking forward to visiting Scotland too.

Jasper's reputation has really grown in the past few years and the money he has earned writing coloumns and opinion pieces has allowed him to give up his paid job with Amnesty International to focus full-time on his activism, travelling the world to give talks on human rights and even filming several successful television documentaries.

Emmy continues to blog frequently and has joined a panel of advisors at the United Nations specialising in women's rights and justice for rape victims. However, this job can be done from home allowing her to take in a further three young women and help them with raising their children.

Scout has decided to follow in Jasper's footsteps and has enrolled in Harvard Law School, hoping to specialise in human rights. Huck met Cecily Breckinridge on his first day as a pre-med student at Georgetown University. One week later and they were dating, another week and they were engaged. Ariadne went to the college in California. There, she met her boyfriend, Edmund. They have been going out for two years now, and she thinks he will pop the question any day now. She can't wait to become Mrs. Holmes! Also, just last year, she met Juliet Williams. Since they had the same last name, when they happened to be in a class where everyone sat in alphabetical order, the two were right next to each other! They soon realized that they had the same parents. Finally, Ariadne realized that when her mother talked about Juliet on the phone, she meant her twin sister! Acacia is in her junior year of high school. She is studying hard for the SATs. Adam and Eve are freshmen.
