Yup...by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Still playing in the West End in London, I believe. It's due to tour in Australia later this year; last I checked, U.S. dates weren't announced yet.
According to what I read online, and interview clips I saw with ALW, the sequel takes place about 10 years after POTO ends. Madame Giry (sp?) and Meg have helped Eric escape the mobs and emigrated to America, settling at Coney Island (in it's heyday). Eric hides himself among the "freaks" and works to become very powerful and successful, as an entertainment promoter. He's never gotten over Christine and is obsessed with her.
Christine is married to Roul and has a son, Gustave. She's been away from the stage and singing for many years. Eric contacts her anonymously, offering her a large sum of money for a "come back" performance in his new show at Coney Island. She accepts and finds out, only after she's there, that Eric is behind the scheme.
Visit that convenient video site and search "Love Never Dies". There are interview clips there as well as the music video for the first single, "'Till I Hear You Sing" and a clip of the stage performance of that song at the West End.

LAME. It doesn't need a sequel. Why do they have to make sequels to everything these days?! Because they know we have to go see them, even if we don't think they'll be any good...
At least Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote it, that makes it more acceptable. But still. Argh, it already had a good and distinct ending! And I don't want more story to change your perspective of the characters, they're perfect the way they are! Unplanned sequels generally just bother me, especially when it's things where I'm satisfied with assuming my own ending beyond what is shown. This new one better not be junk, at least.

Well, the show didn't earn fantastic reviews from the critics, but my cousin went to see it the last time she was in London and she enjoyed it...
Honestly, I'm curious and I kinda hope they bring Love Never Dies to Broadway and/or America.

The one song I've heard, and some instrumental bits are gorgeous. I figure, even if the story disappoints, I'll enjoy the music and the spectacle, so I'm inclined to see it.

But I'd be holding onto my seat nervously the whole time. :)
I'd have to wait a long time though, I'm sure. It would have to come to like Chicago or Detroit or Milwaukee or Toronto first. Although Chicago and Toronto get a lot of A tour stuff, at least.
