[Opinions] Norman
So for the longest time I had the name Charles Norman in my head as my first child. However; I have met so many little Charlies lately that I have been thinking about Norman as a FN. It is my grandfather's name and no matter what it will be included in the name of my first son. My issue is that it may sound a little to old-manish. WDYT? Also, could you throw me some combos with MNs that kind of spice it up/make it sound fresher.
Also, I have been loving Phaedra lately. Do Phaedra and Norman sound way to mismatched? I feel like most girl names I love are a bit to modern or foreign with Norman (Lua, Scarlett, Tallulah, etc) Could you give me some other names that have a similar feel to Norman?

LoveI have a good friend with a son named Norman who's almost 3, so there is at least one other young Norman around. :)I do think it seems a little bit old-man-ish, but I think that's really cute to picture on a little boy. Norman is so strong and handsome and cuddly, and I also asscoaite it with "A River Runs Through It," so it's outdoorsy and makes me think of fly-fishing.I think Phaedra and Norman sound okay together, and I actually like the other three girl's names you listed with it. It makes it seem more cool and modern. I'll leave the spicing/freshening-up-Norman combos to other posters because I don't think that's my forte. Plus my Norman combos are stuff like Norman Ambrose, Norman Cecil, Norman Mackenzie, Norman Paul, and Norman Peter... not fresh or spicy, just kind and bookish.

I know someone named Norman! I think he's in his 30's. I don't mind the name. Maybe Norman Milo, Norman Rex, Norman Carl? Of your girl names, I agree Phaedra is a litttle mismatched with Norman, but I feel Scarlett is old-fashioned enough to go with Norman. And while you didn't mention it, perhaps thinking of brother names for Norman would be fun too, and possibly necessary down the road:Norman and Louis
Norman and Stuart
Norman and Calvin
Norman and Thomas
Norman and Everett
Norman and ChandlerOther sisters, which may not be your style, but these come to mind:
Norman and Mary-Louise
Norman and Martha
Norman and Hazel
Norman and Ada
Norman and Adelle
Norman and Celia
Norman and Elaine or the more modern Elena

I really do think that Norman is very old fashioned. There isn't really a cute nickname you could use to make it more child-friendly either; it's fine as a middle name but I dont't really see it working as a first name.
Nevertheless, here are some middle name suggestions:
Norman Asher
Norman Elijah
Norman Harrison
Norman Jake
Norman BlakeI don't think any of your female names go that well with Norman, although Phaedra is probably the best match. Other suggestions:
Esther
Phoebe
Clara
Harriet
Judith
Theresa / Therese
Ruth

I heart Norman. Yes, my first instinct is to see an older man but, as I keep visualizing, I can see an adorable kid...a whip-smart, keep-an-eye-on-him, charmer of a kid. For me, Tallulah and Scarlett are fine with Norman. Phaedra feels a bit exotic, but not incompatible, especially as she *sounds* "battle-ready" to my ear and he's a Viking. :)Some "young-ish" mn ideas:Norman Drew
Norman Eli
Norman Milo
Norman Lance
Norman Leo
Norman Levi
Norman Lucas
Norman Malachi
Norman Maxwell
Norman Oliver
Norman Rafe
Norman Reid
Norman Rhys
Norman Riley
Norman Spencer
Norman Tobias
Norman Vincent
Norman Wesley/Westley
Norman Wiley

I'm not a huge fan of Norman. It seems really dated to me but not in a cool comeback sort of way yet. I think Norman sounds really odd with your other names, especially with Phaedra. Phaedra is so mysterious and beautiful, and next to her Norman seems really bland and boring in comparison. That's just my opinion though. Hmm, I'll try to spice up old-man Norman. :)Norman Phoenix
Norman Caius
Norman Bartholomew
Norman Cyrus
Norman Alexander
Norman Kane
Norman Lucius
Norman Benedict
Norman Lazarus
Norman Xavier
Norman Elijah
Norman ZaneAny you like? These are some of the names I think have a similar feel to Norman...Nolan
Morton

I like Norman.Llewella recently came across a sibset (I think) of Otis & Norman. Norman is cute, slightly dated but getting ready for a come back and I adore Norm. Norman is a very modern name in some ways and I can totally see Phaedra, Lua, Scarlett & Tallulah with it. They all have a bit of a hipster feel to them.
