While she and Jackie were apart, Mamie met a man named Ryan Cooper (NMI), and she had something of a fling with him. From him came little Quinnie, who is far more of a dear than her father. Jackie is not comfortable with the fact that the girl is not his--it tears him, because he is utterly charmed by her and that seems wrong to him.
I myself am not at all pleased with Mamie's behavior, but I'm sitting on my hands--it's not my place to interfere. It must work out between her and Jackie without my involvement, for she has made her bed and now must lie in it.

DD: Emily Scarlett, coming in six months or so
The impending birth of Riley and Hayley's first child is news that everyone has looked forward to. She will be called Emily, after Hayley's elder sister, who was caught in a housefire and died when she was sixteen and Hayley was fourteen. Scarlett is for Riley's favourite colour and for the fact that the names sound nice together. :) They are moving to Tallahassee for two reasons: first of all, Riley has found a job there as the curator of a museum. Secondly, it is where his twin, Christian, finally showed up, and Riley wants to be nearby for support.

DS: Christian Samuel, 25
There is no news so joyful as the fact that Christian is living up to his name. He is finally overcoming his heroin addiction, after over five years of pain and isolation from his family. We truly don't know where he was during most of that time, but a year ago, he called us up from a pay phone outside a Food Lion in Tallahassee, Florida. "I think I'm going to be okay," was all he could say--he sounded as though he was holding back tears. He then told us that he didn't want to call us and asked if he could write. We of course said yes, thinking that it would be easier for him to put on paper his feelings than to say them aloud.
His letters have brought us joy. Christian has not spoken of his missing years, but he has told us about the recent past--how he met a beautiful girl his age called, of all things, Mariposa. Her real name, he confided, was Catalina Rosario Sanchez, but she preferred to be called by the Spanish word for butterfly, or, more often, simply Mari. She had been addicted to cocaine for half a decade and was coming to terms with the fact that she needed help. She encouraged him to do the same, but he took quite a bit longer to decide she was right. Slowly--and not always surely--he dug himself out of the hole the drugs had trapped him in, and the two are now dating very seriously.
We hope to visit them soon, because we want to meet this wonderful girl and to thank her for saving our son.
