Lady Paiva became pregnant only months into her marriage with Aneirin, and she was blessed with a smooth pregnancy free of complication. She gave birth to a healthy son who she called Viljami, for that had been the name of her brother. Neirin gave the name Rhys as the middle name of their child, for that was the name of his own father. He was a dark-haired, quiet child, much like his mother, but in all other ways he shared the friendly nature of his father. Neirin couldn't wait to introduce his family to his son, but Paiva demanded peace and solitude in the early days of Viljami's life, so he respected her wishes until mother and child settled into a routine.
The start of Queen Minerva's reign filled Neirin with hope that Kriana could recover after the devastating War of Rebellion. He eagerly awaited the arrival of the envoys, knowing that trade relations would help revive the country's economy. Paiva held a less optimistic outlook. She had doubts about the abilities of the young queen, and feared that others would take advantage of her inexperience.
--
Paiva and Neirin were surprised how much Viljami had grown in the years since his birth. Days ago it seemed he was still a wee newborn. Now, he was an inquisitive two-year-old, eager to explore the world he lived in. He had strong bonds with his father, but he adored none more than his mother. Indeed, Paiva's stern demeanor softened whenever she was in the presence of her child, and aside from Neirin only Viljami could evoke the sound of laughter from her lips.
Meanwhile, Neirin gained a position in the Kingdom's government as a low-level diplomatic advisor. He was no longer able to fight to defend the Kingdom as he did during the War, but he wanted to help where he could. He would attend meetings with envoys from other nations to help establish friendly relations within Kriana, but never departed abroad, as he disliked being away from his family. He would often tell Paiva of what transpired during these meetings, and his wife was always ready to listen. Paiva's apprehensions regarding Queen Minerva had simmered since she was crowned, but nevertheless still remained. Her perceptions of the royal family were not helped by the behaviour and extravagant spending of Alexandra, the queen's sister-in-law, whom she looked upon with disdain.
Two years after Viljami's birth, Paiva and Neirin welcomed a second child into the family. Neirin named her Aderyn Rose after his own sister, who had red-gold hair not unlike that of his new daughter.
