[Opinions] Jolene
What do you think of the name and how would you spell it? Joleen or Jolene.
what middle name would work with this name? The last name starts with a MY sound.don't worry about being nice, I'm not going to get upset if you don't like the name I just want to know how people would react to the name. For me, it goes hand in hand with Dolly Parton's song. When I say "Jolene", I almost have to stop myself continuing with "I'm begging of you please don't take my man." I'm terrible with connotations sometimes! I'd spell it Joleen to minimise this. Also, I think it sounds a bit dated. Most "een" names do. Maureen, Arlene, Noreen, Doreen ..._____________________________________________________________________Elinor"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."

Instantly I think:Dolly Parton singing:
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald greenYour smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, JoleneHe talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, JoleneAnd I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, JoleneJolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you canYou could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me, JoleneI had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, JoleneJolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, Jolene

I apologize in advance for my gut reaction :) my DH finds this name "exotic" as well and all I can say is that I'm not one for stereotypes, but I think of a country-bumpkin character. It's not a classy name IMO. I know this is not very nice, and again I apologize. As far as other Jo names, I like Johanna, Jocelyn or even Josephine (nn Josie is very sweet, and although this last one is nms, it reminds me of Little Women so it's a good option). Hope this helps!

There's no need to apologize, I wanted everyones gut reaction to the name :)
I'm trying to find some way of honoring my grandmother JoAn (who I'm named after myself. My name is Joanna) without it being to close to my own name.
I've been thinking of Jocelyn alot also.
Thank you for replying it did help alot:)Joanna“I never wanted to be different I just wanted to be me” ~BMEzine.com

I'm not a fan of -lene and -leen names, with the exception of Colleen and Kathleen, maybe. But Jolene and Joleen (if I had to pick a spelling = Jolene) just looks made-up and makes me think of a Southern woman who might live in a trailer park. :( Sorry. Joelle is slightly better imo, as is Jolie.
