I didn't particularly like it when my cousin was named that, but he's 20 now. It has grown on me enough to defend it, but not enough to love it.

I love Blaine. I have never seen Pretty in Pink, it was a bit before my generation (though I love breakfast club which is also) so that quote doesn't bother me.
Awesome boy name

Blaine's a pain and that's the truthFrom Stephen King's Dark Tower series...
Loved the name before that, though

You know, you will get a lot of jokes/references to that 80s movie (see the poster below)- I think it was Pretty in Pink, maybe? And it does kind of have an overly preppy/pretentious vibe, but it has really grown on me lately, too. I actually really like Blaine a lot. It's simple and straight-forward, and not overly masculine or too feminine.

"His name is Blaine? Oh! That's a major appliance, that's not a name!"Sorry... I couldn't resist the Pretty In Pink reference. :-)

Blaine has never been my style. But that quote still runs through my head too. So if it ever had a chance that quote killed it.

Ha! That's exactly what I was thinking. :)

I quite like it too, but perhaps more as a middle name. I just think it has a pleasant sound.

Little Cousin's middle name. His first name is Hayden. Hayden Blaine. He's a demon spawn. I like the name as a middle name, though.

I am not too keen on it. It sounds quite modern and not my style at all. However there are definitely worse names out there and I think it would actually make a lovely middle name :)

I just think of Ducky from Pretty in Pink: "His name is Blaine? That's a major appliance, not a name!"It's not my taste. I'm not a big fan of recently discovered names with long a sounds because they all seem so similar. I personally prefer Blaise.

Oh, I agree. Blaise is much better. It's funny how one letter can make all the difference. I remember getting my throat blessed on St. Blaise Day. I have a thing for obscure medieval saint names. It lends the name weight / respect. Blaine on the other hand, makes me think of a soap opera character. It lacks depth.

I don't really like the fact that it sounds like bland however I do have a neighbor with this as his middle name, Keaton Blaine. So I can see it as a middle name.

I am very mixed! I definitely am not up to liking it, but I think I am above disliking it now. I used to really dislike it, I tossed it in with all the other annoying stuck-up short B names like Blake and Blair and Brett and Brent. But there's this nice middle-aged guy at my church and I never knew his name, then like last week I found out it was Blaine. So I can see it on a non annoying stuck-up young person, and it's kind of intriguing.

I love it for the fact that a Pokemon gym leader is named this!
