[Opinions] Mariah Carey names twins....
Singer Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon named twins Moroccan Scott 'Roc' Cannon (boy) and Monroe Cannon (girl). Explanation:"Scott is both the middle name of Cannon, 30, and his grandmother's maiden name. Carey and Cannon's daughter did not receive a middle name because the singer herself doesn't have one.
As for the inspiration behind the names, Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Carey, 42, while Moroccan comes from the top-tier of Carey's New York City apartment, which features Moroccan-inspired décor and was also the site of Cannon's marriage proposal."-I'd have liked Marilyn, and even Morocco would have been tolerable in light of the place name craze, but this:-( Monroe is all male to me, and naming your son an adjective and a nationality that you have no connection to!?
ETA: I just realized that his name is Moroccan Cannon! REALLY not a good idea, imo.

At least Moroccan can go by Scott later if he wants. Poor Monroe has nothing to fall back on. :(

They're awful.

I most definitely do NOT like an adjective and a noun paired together (Moroccan Cannon). Way too descriptive for my tastes and that's not even going into the nationality thing. And since they're Marilyn fans, why not Marilyn? It would have been so retro and would have paved the way for more little Marilyns (think Ella Travolta).

I KNEW ITI knew nationalities would be the next big thing!!!!!Sometimes my powers frighten me.

My friends named their kids Dutch, Irish, German and Tuscan

*gasp*I actually quite like Dutch. It seems so... Steinbeck-50's. Is Tuscan a boy? It's ruggedly charming.

They are all boys. :-)

Can't stand their son's name! I mean "Moroccan Cannon"? What were they thinking? I guess they weren't! I agree that Morocco would have been nicer, but Rocco would have been even better. Why would you name your son after your apartment?Monroe is just bearable, but only just.

Roc Cannon and Monroe Cannon are fine.I agree that Moroccan Cannon doesn't have a great flow, but with the nickname Roc, it's fine.Being celebrity children, I think they'll have plenty of leeway from others as far as how their names are received. They will be expected to have off-beat names. Also, it could have been 'worse.'I know lots of kids with unique names that everyone here would make a negative fuss over, but they are good kids, and to me the preconceived ideas I would have about such names quickly fade away after getting to know them.I'm a little taken aback by the responses of some people here; if it's not your style, that's fine, but some people seem to get carried away and forget that maybe it suits the situation, taste, or culture of someone else.

I wasn't sure what she'd name her kids, but Moroccan is worse than I expected. I was expecting either cutesy or trendy or both, but nothing as ridiculous as Moroccan. What the heck is up with that? Monroe would have been better had the other baby been a boy as well, but I don't like it as a girl's name. It's much better than Moroccan, though. Monroe isn't all that bad considering. That one doesn't surprise me all that much. I just thought she'd use something more feminine for a girl.

LMAOYou knew it was going to be bad... but to name a child after a decor and an iconic coquette? hahahahah

My thoughts exactly. Even collectively, these parents sound dumb..-i will keep you company on those days so long and black.-

I completely dislike Moroccan - it is just so ridiculous!!! I think it is nice that he has his dad's middle name but it is just mean to call your kid Moroccan! And the fact that is rhymes is just icing on the ridiculous cake.Monroe is nice but NOT on a girl, it is very masculine to me. Overall the names are really not my thing.

BARF!Moroccan is stupid. Would you name your kid French or Chinese? I can't describe how stupid it is. Or how stupid Monroe is for a girl. A woman her age should know better, even if she is a celebrity. Oh well, at least I don't like Mariah Carey, since I was crushed when Alicia Keys named her son Egypt.Notice that both names contain the word "moron".

WOW SO BAD!!

This totally made me laugh out loud.Literally...What can you say. Those definitely satisfy the world's need for absurdly bad celebrity baby names. I couldn't have come up with better.

Ditto. Hilarious.

Oh, Moroccan and Monroe are great names for twins. Not. I'm sure they've tried to be really creative but you have to draw the line somewhere. Naming your son after the decor in an apartment is just... stupid. I kind of get Monroe but I wish they had chosen Marilyn instead. Monroe is too masculine for my liking. I like Roc as a nickname though and with that name he definitely needs a nickname. The only good things about those two names is Scott, it's nice and honoring.

ETA: Moroccan will go by 'Roc'

Roc is not bad.

On twitter Nick Cannon said "Roc and Roe let's go!"So it is possible she is going to be called Roe

I am thoroughly disappointed.:(

I remember when they said they were going for "creative, but not wacky" names. I'm sorry, folks, but THESE are pretty damn wacky. Moroccan? Monroe for a girl?WHY, MARIAH, WHHHYYYY???
vote up1
Why couldn't they just go with Morocco?
At least if they had named him Morocco, his first name wouldn't be an adjective describing his last name.
Also, Monroe is kind of masculine, IMO.OUCH!!!!Scott is the only decent part of this whole thing.

*barf*I thought they'd name them something horrible. But Moroccan and Monroe? Yuck!

Wow Moroccan is awful especially with the surname. Monroe I like in a GP way.

Marilyn would have been lovely, I really wish they had chose that instead. Monroe is not attractive to me, even on a boy I don't like it.I don't like Moroccan at all. The meaning to them made me laugh, basically he's named after the decorations in her apartment. Hmmm, the decorations in my bathroom are called "Sweet Pea", maybe that will be my first daughter's name?Scott gets kudos for being an honoring name.

I've been waiting forever for this. Not really that impressed. I love the idea of Scott being honoring for generations now and it is a good name especially in the middle name spot. Monroe, actually I kinda like it on a girl but they could have done better. I was thinking they'd use Mimi too. I think Marilyn would have been better. I guess it is cute the connection that Moroccan has but I don't think the connection is enough to surpass the strangeness or tackiness of the name. And Moroccan Cannon is insane. What's his nickname going to be Can-Can? Moroccan is really long to say all the time.

Yeah, I just read this. I am... not impressed. Although I must say that I'm also not surprised. Part of Mariah Carey's charm is that she's super tacky and over-the-top, so what else should one expect other than a Marilyn Monroe reference and a nod to a decorative theme? :-PWhen I heard "M names" I was vaguely hoping for Michael (for Michael Jackson, was my rationale) and Mimi (for Mariah herself). But those are apparently just too boring for them. ;-)

I have been watching Mariah's twitter page for weeks to see what the names would be! I told my husband that if we couldn't agree on a name for our baby that we would use whatever Mariah uses! lol I don't think having a Marilyn AND a Monroe would be a good idea for me. Monroe is okay though, I don't like Moroccan at all. What do you use as a nn? Moro? Roccan? Maybe Rocky! Maybe just Scott.
vote up1
I wonder if Monroe will gain any sort of popularity. I've thought for awhile that it sort of fit with other girls names celebrities use... Harlow and Shiloh and Monroe. I don't mind it, honesty. It's cute for both genders.Scott doesn't interest me, but I guess the honoring is nice. Scott seems dated and Monroe seems very modern though so the set seems a little mismatched.
vote up1
Scott is his middle name
vote up1
Oh oops.Totally missed Moroccan. Weird. I kind of overlooked it because there was no middle name for Monroe, so I only looked at one name for each baby. I think it's a little silly to not give the daughter a middle name just because Mariah doesn't have one. :| Just seems lazy, I guess. But maybe they consider that honoring? @@Not sure how I feel about it. It sort of brings to mind the poster who had a friend that had sons named like... German, Irish, and I don't remember the last one. Aussie. I dunno.I guess they match a little better in style that way though. Moroccan and Monroe. Hm. I dunno. I can't get behind the boys name.

Sadly, my expectations weren't high. At least they didn't misspell either name / word. Five will get you ten they nn the boy Rocky. Then again, Mo might be a cute nn for Monroe.Best of luck to them all. They seem happy and a nice family.

MoI love Mo. :-) I love it even more if you repeat it for Momo. Nicknames like that just tickle me, like Cece, Didi, Kiki, Mimi, etc.

AwMaureen is my niece. When she was born I started calling her Momo. It caught on within the family. But she didn't like it and now goes by Mo. :-/ I still love Momo, though. Plus, Dede (Deirdre) is my best friend. You're hitting all the right buttons of my heart. :-D I love nns like that too: Kiki, Mimi, Lulu, Coco, etc. Love 'em to pieces.
