The war years were hard for Ari and Nicholas. They were once again recruited as spies by Minnie, and for a year they worked in this capacity. Though still as skillful as ever, this was was a thousand times harder because they were separated from their children. Ione, Marius, Olivia, Callista, and Remus lived at court, under the care of their aunts and uncle and a beavy of nurses and servants. Remus was only a year old when the war began, and Ari and Nicholas missed him saying his first sentence (luckily he had both walked and said his first word early, before they had to leave). Ione and Marius began acting out, and Olivia, always the quiet observer, withdrew into herself and would go days with hardly saying a word.
After a year, Ari appealed to her sister. The spy game was not one for parents, she said, especially parents of so many children. The chilren needed her and Nicholas. So Minnie reassigned them, making Ari head of the reconnaissance section of the military and making her and Nicholas both teachers of other spies. They still had to leave the children at times, but they were parents again. When the war ended, they were both exausted and extremely relieved. They even led the new baby boom among the court, givign birth to the first royal child after the war. Galen Belenus Nicodemus was given his last two names, which mean "bright" and "victory of the people" to celebrate the end of the war and the future the kingdom hopes to have. Galen is a name both love and had talked of using for Remus. Ari, who has the large family she wanted, has decided Galen will be her last child, though she is still young she has decided to use her magic to keep from concieving. She fulyl supports her sister's choice of successor, as does Ione, who has always been a loyal friend and supporter of her cousin. Ari and Nicholas are encouraging her to begin thinking about what she wants to do with her life. Marius and Olivia are both going hard at their studies, and Olivia and Remus have both begun magical studies (Olivia's eyes turned violet rather suddenly when she was a year old, revaling the magical ability Ari already had suspected.) Marius and Callista, both without magical ability, are still both hard at work at their other studies and both show great ability there, even littel Callista. It is too soon to tell if Galen's eyes will show the tell-tale sign of magic, but Ari and Nicholas both rather hope he won't. They feel like bold leader Ione, observant and diplomatic Olivia, and quiet and studious Remus are quite enough.
