My friends and family call me Elle, at my own request. I don't like Elinor much at all. (My parents never pushed the issue. They called me Elinor from when I was born, but were happy to say Elle when I told them I preferred it.)
Some people decide to call me Elly, which I dislike, but not enough to say anything.
Very rarely people have tried Nell, and I hate that so much I will ask them not to, even if I seem rude. So far I've been spared Nellie. I think I would take a swing for someone if they dared Nellie - it's an elephant's name only!
