I am liking this more and more lately. I love the sound and the look, but does the 6 months of gloom thing bother you? What mn's would you suggest? Persephone _____ or ____ Persephone?

I think the six months of gloom thing is a beautiful story ... it's about how the world really is. There's a winter for every summer; you can't have all that you want and none that you don't, & all that stuff - Persephone is more beautiful, imo, because it encapsulates a natural truth, not just a "happy-pretty" idea.Persie, I'm sure, would be the first nn I'd make up. Sephie works too, but it's a little more 'precious' seeming - how it'd work depends on the person.I'd be tempted to put June with it. Would that be corny?- chazda

It's funny you suggested June. I almost suggested Juno, the goddess the month is named after. Persephone Juno is a fun combination, but perhaps it's a little "too" mythological. Using June is a nice way to normalize the name and "anchor" it a little. I wouldn't think it was corny to use June. Temporal or natural names make a lot of sense, to me.

June's not really my style. I like a lot of the names people are suggesting (thanks, guys!) but I get this weird idea that since it's so Greek that other names look weird with it.I don't think that June is corny, and it does sound nice with it, but I wouldn't use June at all, I don't think. Sorry.

I love it. The connection to Greek mythology only enhances the name, for me.Persephone Iris

I love the story about her, and how told it to many children to explain the seasons (no, the parents have not gotten back to me about it). I can't understand why one would see anything negative in the myth about her.
I don't think the length is a problem either, not much longer than Penelope for instance.
It is just that it is so unusual that it would take people a bit of getting used to, but so what? There are plenty of unusual names, and this is not made up, it is from classical mythology, if anybody asks there's a solid source.
I would love to see the name used.

I like Penelope a lot, too. :)

Persephone is a bit gloomy. I once did a report on her and her story isn't so cheery. I think that maybe, if you were to use this, use a rather popular Greek mythological name, like Melissa as the first name.

I strongly dislike the name Melissa. There's a good chance that if I like the name Persephone (unusual but classic), unless I've otherwise stated a preference for all names Greek mythology, I probably won't like the name Melissa (very popular, somewhat boring from overuse). Sorry, but thanks for the suggestion.

I also like the sound and the look, but I do dislike the meaning. It's enough that I wouldn't personally use the name, but it wouldn't bother me for someone else to use it.

Persephone is one of those names that I like the sound of but which I would naver use for a first name
The story of Persephone isnt really a gloomy one the way I see it, its a success story
Persephone like most young woman probably loved both her mother and her husband, her mother like many woman just found it difficult to let go of her little girl, and her husband found it difficult to share his wife affections, the good thing is that they were able to come to a working compromise which must have pleased Persephone.

I actually like the story as I really like all the season for one reason or another (though sometimes I get frustrated with rain or snow, but they're merely elements of different seasons) so I like your outlook on it. Obviously, the story doesn't ruin the name for me, but I was curious to see what other's thought.

I like it now that I know how to pronounce it. :) It's one of those names like Hermione that I never knew how to pronounce correctly and now that I do I think it's rather nice though a bit on the stuck-up side.
So what about something classic and beautiful as a MN of FN because Persephone is rarely heard and might be considered out there as far as style.Persephone Grace
Persephone Isabel
Persephone Rose
Persephone Sophia
Persephone Violet
Persephone Abigail
Persephone Adelaide
Persephone Maria
Persephone Elizabeth
Persephone Alexandra
Persephone Irene orEleanor Persephone
Juliet Persephone

Katherine Persephone
Victoria Persephone
Alexandra Persephone
Sylvia Persephone
Olivia Persephone
Emma Persephone
Anna Persephone
Madeline PersephoneOne thing though, it makes any name rather long! :)

The connotations would bother me, but then again, how many people actually know the story behind the name? If you're fine with it, I'd say go for it but use it only as a mn, in my opinion.

I actually don't care for the meaning, but the myth behind it is quite interesting. I find it too long to use as a fn, and also I think it'd be confused for Stephanie quite a bit. But I think it would make a great mn, preferably with a short fn. Clara Persephone, Eve Persephone?

Iris goes with it nicely, but it's one of my sisters' favorites, so I couldn't use it. I have favorite names in my profile (combos and my list) but I don't know that they really flow well anyway or I would probably have automatically matched it with one of them.
