I love Mabel, but I don't like Maple as a name at all, sorry. The sugary sweet association has sexual overtones that bother me.
Kate I prefer as a nn, but it's not so cutesy that it can't stand on its own either.

You think Maple has sexual overtones? Really? She reminds me of autumn leaves of yellow, red and brown, pumpkins and apple picking...

I think its because it's food. I find most food-names have vague sexual overtones.

It's the "maple syrup" / sweet / sticky part that I can't get over. :-/ I'm with New_Chloe on that.
There are some names of food that I do like, and even love some, like Ginger and Clementina. But I have other associations for them so the food aspect doesn't overower it. Maybe it's because I'm from the Pacific Northwest and don't get those gorgeous colors in the fall.
