Help[Opinions] Sibyl or Sibylla?
Which? Sybil is NOT an option. I pronounce Sibylla as sih-BEE-luh (there is no BILL in it).

I guess I'll go with Sibylla, since it makes me think of Sibelius.
If you gave me the option, I'd say Sibel (si-BEL), which sounds/looks similar but isn't related.

The Sibelius resemblance is neat. I never thought of that.
If Sibel isn't related, where does it comes from? Is it a variant of Isabel? Just curious.
And on a side note, if you like the sound of Sibel, you might like the French pronunciation of Cybele, which is virtually the same. It's pronounced, "SIB-uh-lee" in English (and Greek?). But the French "si-BEL" is beautiful too. I've toyed with Marie-Cybele as a combo because it sounds like "Mary so beautiful." I'll have to play around with Sibel now. Thanks!

I've never thought of Cybele. The Cy- looks really masculine to me, so I'd have to let that one sink in. Mary Cybele is very sweet.

While I have fond association for Sibylla (main character in "My Brilliant Career" starring Judy Davis), I have a real soft spot for Sibyl.
There are so many beautiful, fancy names ending in an "-a." Sibyl is great because she doesn't need frills to express her femininity. And I definitely agree with you on the spelling. If the noun is "a sibyl" then the name should be "Sibyl" too. Sybil always makes me think of a poor man's Sylvia.
Sibyl has been on my mind a lot lately. I hope it's a sign of a general uptick in her popularity fortunes. Sibyl Minerva is my current stock combo for her. But Sibyl Hester is growing on my too. Actually, Myra, Sibyl and Hester have been playing around as a sibling set in my head too. . . . Sorry. I got lost for a minute in Sibyl dreaming.

I really don't like either but Sibyl is still 100% better, imo.

I love Sibylla, but I trip over it. It feels unnatural for me to say, maybe because I was saying it like Sibyl+a. Sih-BEE-luh is much nicer. But it's also a bit more attention-seeking. Sibyl is calm and self-assured, unique without trying; Sibylla is a touch more high-strung and shrill.
I'll go with Sibyl. It's such a warm honey-colour for me. But both are very beautiful.

Sibylla...Sibyl reminds me of the word 'civil' too much and the crazy character.

I like Sibyl. I think Sibylla would have to correct everyone's pronounciation of her name with the way you're pronouncing it, and the extra -uh is too much for me.
