[Opinions] Cloud..?
So, my sister made me watch Charlie St. Cloud the other day (not as good as the book) and for some reason it clicked that since St. Cloud is a legitimate person...that means there was a person named Cloud once upon a time. And I really like it. Am I going crazy, or is Cloud actually a decent name?

I am actually reading a book about a dog named Cloud, and I really like it. Not sure about it as a baby name though...
I like the sound of Cloud, but I'd never be able to choose what gender it would be. Word names seem feminine to me, but Cloud has a somewhat strong sound to it.
Not that it's entirely relivant, but my friend and I knew a boy named Klowd. Rather unfortunate for the poor dear.

I like it, but it reminds me of the Final Fantasy character Cloud Strife. That's not necessarily a bad association though, especially if you're into video games. I think I'm beginning to like Cloud as a GP.
I love Final Fantasy VII. I'd never name my kid Cloud, though. Personal taste, I guess. I don't find it horrible, since it's really not that far off from other nature names like Sky(e), River, Sage, Wren, etc.
Now, the two baby boys named Sephiroth sighted by members of the other name forum I post on... THAT's another story.

Sephiroth? Oh dear. Now that's a bit much! Sephiroth as a middle name wouldn't be too bad, but as a first name? Everyone would know they were named for the character, because I'm pretty sure he's the only with that name, or at least the most well-known.
I know a kid named Cloud.
Actually his parents are from Laos and his Laotian name means Cloud, but everyone calls him Cloud.
IT'S ADORABLE

Aw. That is adorable.
That is adorable! :D
Saint Cloud is actually the French form of the Catholic St. Clodoald, who I believe lived and preached during the Middle Ages.
I know an Italian Claudio who goes by Claud (prn. like cloud), but I'm not sure that I like Cloud as a full name.

It doesn't really sound all that great as a name. How about Nephele for a girl instead? It means "cloudy", and it has a much more pleasing ring to it.
Cloud Strife
Cloud is your main dude in Final Fantasy VII. I would expect all people named Cloud to have really big spikey yellow hair, wear purple, and carry swords twice as big as their bodies. And a lot of other people would think that, too.

Yikes!
Giant swords and Yugi-Oh hair. That is what I envisioned.

To me, Cloud Strife is not a good association, since he has LOADS of fangirls.
I think of a cloud drive..
However, St. Cloud would be a kick butt middle name, right???

St. Cloud is not "saint Clowd" but "sahn cloode" to me. In France, I believe that Cloud is a lot closer to a diverse spelling of Claude than to being like those fluffy things in the sky.
Ciel is a name that always reminds me of clouds, probably because there is a boutique in my city called Bleu Comme Le Ciel which has some whispy clouds on it's sign. A celebrity (I forget whom) named thre daughter Ciel and I think it's rather interesting and pretty.

Ciel is very pretty. I'm pronounce it like see-ehl in my head, but I'm sure that's wrong. How do you pronounce it?
Ciel means "sky" in French. That would certainly explain it. :)
A different spelling of Claude probably. Still I think Cloud is kind of an odd name.
Cloud...
Do you want to be protrayed as a video game nerd is the first question I would ask when using this name? Cloud Strife from the Final Fantasy games is what enters my mind.

Hahaha! My immediate thought as well.
Hey, I AM a video game nerd! To be portrayed as such would be truthful!

I've actually never played a video game, unless Tetris counts. I've just always loved the German pronunciation of Claudia and thought Cloud was more masculine while keeping that sound.
It's A-OK!
Tetris is the number 10 biggest time drain video game of all time. It's addictive.

Really? I thought that Cloud is a name more likely to be used by hip, nature-nuts yuppies than gamers.
Cloud is a GP of mine :) & I've used it in the middle name slot several times while making combos
