I think it would be perfectly fine to use Fawn. It's not too "Bambi." I mostly just think of it as a nature name.
I'd stick with Fawn in terms of spelling considering that "faun" is a separate word with a completely different meaning than "fawn."

I think I like Faun and its meaning more than Fawn. But I'm a bit twisted that way.
