[Opinions] Clarice
Like? Dislike? Too Silence of the Lambs?
Do you say KLAH-ris, KLA-ris or klə-REES? Something else even?

Love it!
One of my favorite names! I pronounce it klə-REES. I don't care about the Silence of the Lambs reference. It was also the name of Rudolf's (red nose fella) girlfriend and the name of the grandmother in Princess Diaries.
It's so pretty and delicate to me. I just love it.

I pronounce it klə-REES. I like it, but I prefer the spelling Clarisse by far. The -rice part kind of bothers me, but Clarisse is actually one of my favorite names.
I actually started liking the name more after "The Silence of the Lambs." I don't think it makes the name unusable. It's not like Clarice was the villain anyways.

I say CLAIR-iss (Claire + iss). I'm not familiar with Silence of the Lambs so I don't think of that.

This is one of my least favorite names. I say kla-REES. I just don't find anything I like about it. The look and sound are just so very unappealing to me
I like it okay. Silence of the Lambs actually buffs it, for me - it might be a little fusty if not for the image of Jodie Foster.
I say clair-REES.
It's not my style though - it seems vaguely prissy to me.

I pronounce it kla-REES. It's a pretty name, in my opinion. Silence of the Lambs is my first association, but I like Jodie Foster and she's the protagonist of the film (it's not like you're considering Hannibal, heh). Among the current generation of kids, many have never even heard of it. Makes me feel old. ;)
I grew up knowing two girls named Clarise (yes, both with an "s" not a "c") so I got used to as a name far before I knew what Silence of the Lambs was. I have always really liked it. It's very soft and pretty and classy.
ETA: I say klah-REES

I like the name, but when it comes to Clar- names I prefer Clara, Clare, or Clarimonde.
On sight I pronounce it as "CLAIR-iss". I had a great-aunt named Clarice and that's how my great-grandparents chose to pronounce it, so that's what I'm used to.

It's okay. I far prefer Clarissa, though. I say "kla-REES".
I don't think that the Silence of the Lambs association ruins the name completely, but it's something to be careful about. Yet if you like it and know the possible repurcussions, it's okay to use.

I do think of Silence of the Lambs when I hear it, but I don't really think that's a big deal.
I pronounce it klə-REES, and that's part of why I don't like it. Names like this--iambic with that EES sound at the end--like Clarice, Patrice, Denise, and so on, sound dated to me (and not in a good way.)

It has been in my top 5 for years!
"...are the lambs still screaming?"
LOL... I agree. My brothers used to kill me with imitations of the killer saying "Clarice"
I do like the name quite a bit though. Stinky brothers ruined it for me!!!!

It's OK. Nice and solid name, but has a quite masculine feel to me. I say KLA-ris.
