[Opinions] Quinna?
I have found a name I really like, and I wanted to get opinions on it. I am a big history / genealogy buff, and in researching my family, I found a female ancestor named Quinna [pronounced kwih-na, not kwee-na, according to family lore]. She was born in the late 1700s and she was the "matriarch"--had many sons and daughters and was loved and respected by all. Sadly, she died at the age of 50 giving birth to her last daughter, who was named after her. For a number of generations after that, baby girls were named Quinna or Quinnie in her honor; but eventually, the name fell away, and now hasn't been used in about 100 years.I think Quinna is a pretty name, and also that it would be a nice way to honor my family's history. I have been told, though, that I should spell it Quenna unless I want people to pronounce it "kwee-na." What do you guys think?

I think the spelling should stay Quinna. I naturally pronounced it "kwin-na." And it's a prettier spelling than Quenna, in my opinion. I actually think more people would mispronounce Quenna as "kwee-na" because they could misread it as Queena.Quinna is intriguing. I like Quinn for a girl, but I think I like this, too. I think it would be a cool choice for you if you have the family history associated with it.

Quinna is one of my favorites! Why wouldn't people pronounce it kwih-na? It's Quinn with a -a attached.

I would use it! That is such a great piece of history and I don't think you should change the spelling! You could use the nickname Quinn and that would help people with the pronunciation I think. Would you use it as a first name or a middle?

I think most people would pronounce Quinna kwih-na. If I saw Quina I might think kwee-na, but with two n's I think it's fine.

My initial reaction was to pronounce it like Quinn with an -ah at the end. That's Qwih-na, right?
I think it's neat if it's a family name. I'd use it, and spell it Quinna.(I want to pronounce Quenna like "qwen-uh" if that makes sense. The first syllable rhyming with when and Gwen.

I agree with this. Quinna would pronounced as qwih-na.
Great history to the name! I would totally use it!
