I agree with you, I lived in Scotland as well and did Gaelic for a short time, but I'm very rusty.

I've seen both the 'ISH-bel' and 'ISH-ah-bail/-bel' pronunciations. I greatly prefer the latter, but I'm not 100 percent certain whether it's accurate or not. Maybe it is akin to Clara being pronounced 'CLAR-a' and CLAIR-a' and both being correct.
