Trudy has a let's-get-into-trouble vibe that I love. She's that outgoing best friend that always cheers you up even when you don't want to. She's loyal and true blue. I prefer her as a nn for Gertrude. I've never heard of Truda before, but it's nice. But Trudy can stand on her own just fine too.

Valerie was almost my name, until my father vetoed it at the last minute. So I have a fondness for it. It makes me think of jewelry, a dark amethyst purple.

I don't like Trudy or Truda. They sound dated in a bad way, especially Trudy.

Just Trudy/Truda or Gertrude? (Personally, I don't like either one) ...... I love Valerie as an alternative for Mallory, because Mallory means 'Unfortunate' and Valerie means 'Strong'.

I definitely prefer Valerie. Trudy just seems to diner waitress-y to me.

I like the sound of Valerie, and even like Val as a nn. My next door neighbor is named Trudy, short for Gertrude. She's an amazing woman, from Germany--strong and handsome, so now I have those associations with the name Trudy. I think I prefer True, though that's not a name I'd ever use--maybe as a mn.

I prefer Valerie. It has a nice ring to it, and it's not overused these days.
