Ellie and I met as freshmen in college when we were put on the same team for the orientation activities. We later discovered we were in the same math class as well. We got talking, and it didn’t take long for us to hit it off. I proposed to her our senior year, but we decided to wait until after graduation to get married. We were married last year, and the birth of our baby girl this year marked the start of many new adventures. Lucia Honor Winchester, pronounced loo-SEE-ah, has a mass of curly black hair and brown eyes. She looks just like her mama.

Ellie and I decided to adopt a child this year. The 13-year-old twins are from Liberia. We fully intended to adopt someone closer to Lucia’s age, but Ellie really fell in love with Miata Sia and Kollie Saa. The twins’ first names honor their mother’s tribe, and their middle names honor their father’s tribe. Sadly, their father abandoned them when they were ten, and their mother died when they were eleven because of insufficient medical care. Both children have very dark skin, black eyes, and coarse black hair.

We adopted another child this year. 16-year-old Anastasia Maryana is from Russia. She got mixed up with the wrong crowd at school, her mother found out she was drinking excessively, smoking, doing drugs, and sleeping around a bit, so she threw her out of the house. Ana tried to move in with an aunt, but her aunt proceeded to drop her off at the closest orphanage. At first, she wasn’t too thrilled about being adopted when she had so little time left in the system, but now, she’s hoping she can start over with a new life in Australia. Ana has more of an olive skin tone, straight black hair, and hazel eyes.

We adopted a young boy from Guatemala this year. Nico Osvaldo is 14. We took a vacation to Guatemala, he acted as a tour guide for us, and Ellie fell in love with him. When she found out he didn’t have a home to go back to, she insisted on bringing him home with us. He had no objections whatsoever. He loves having a family again, and he does a great job of helping take care of his new younger siblings. Nico has short dark brown, almost black hair and warm brown eyes.

Much to our surprise, Ellie and I had another baby girl this year. We weren’t expecting that to happen, but we’re excited about it all the same. Zuri Violet has wavy blonde hair and hazel eyes. Frankly, we have no idea how she ended up with blonde hair when I have red hair and Ellie has black hair, but she’s still pretty and we still love her.

Year 15
We took a much needed family vacation this year. We all decided to go to Africa. Miata and Kollie wanted to return to where they were born, just to see how things had changed in the eleven years they had been gone. It was sad to see that not much was different, but at the same time, it was heartening to see how hard people from the western world were working to improve healthcare there. We didn’t spend long in Liberia before travelling to Madagascar to explore the rainforests and such.

Year 16
This year was huge for our family. In January, Ana announced her engagement to her long-time boyfriend Colin Blake. She also told us she was already three months pregnant with his child. We were a little shocked to find out she was pregnant already, but we were supportive all the same. She and Colin married in June, and in early July, they welcomed little Ryan Gavriil into their family. Ana insisted on giving her child a Russian middle name, so he’d have a connection to his mother’s roots. Ryan has straight blonde hair, just like his father, but he has his mother’s hazel eyes. Ana moved in with Colin shortly after they got engaged, and the three are now living happily together.

Year 17
This year, we had a huge family reunion for Christmas. We got together with my mum and dad, my eight brothers and sisters, and all of their kids. Everybody was really excited to see Ana’s baby and meet her new husband since most of them hadn’t had a chance to properly do that at the wedding. It was a lot of fun seeing everybody again, and looking at how fast everybody had grown up.

The biggest events this year centered around my job yet again. On the plus side, there was no transfer. It still wasn’t the news I was hoping for, though. My hours were cut down to 30 hours a week instead of 40. Thankfully, we’re still getting by just fine, I get to spend more time with my kids, but adjusting to a different schedule is taking quite a bit of time.

Year 19
Ana and Colin adopted a child from Ethiopia this year. Actually, they adopted twins. Assefa and Bekele are 2-year-old fraternal twin boys. The two only have a first name, not a middle name. Ana and Colin gave them the middle names Samson and Anatoliy, meaning “sun” and “sunrise” respectively to show how much sun and joy they had brought into their lives. Both boys have coarse dark hair and black eyes; however, Bekele’s hair is slightly curlier than his brother’s, and Assefa has a slightly darker complexion.

This year, I accomplished my goal of putting a swimming pool in our back yard. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but putting in a pool—a heated pool nonetheless—is expensive. We finally saved up enough to make that dream possible. I use the pool every day, and Laura, Juliet, and Zuri often bring friends over to use it.

Year 22
This year was incredibly difficult for my entire family, and I’m not just talking about me, Ellie, and the kids. I’m also talking about my parents and my siblings. My brother Tyler and his wife Martha died in a horrible car crash in August. Their kids weren’t with them, thank God, but it left them in an incredible state of shock to suddenly be without their parents. If truth be told, who wouldn’t be shocked by that? It turns out that Tyler and Martha had a will written up just in case anything were to happen to them. They stated quite clearly that in the event of their death, Ellie and I were to become the legal guardians of Hayden, Noah, and Peyton. The three of them are still struggling with everything, but they’re slowly growing accustomed to living with us.

Year 23
Miata has been dating Siothrún Mcniall, a young man from Ireland, for several years now. Siothrún came here as an exchange student when he was still in secondary school, and he never returned home. Okay, he did return home for a while after he was done with the program, but it didn’t take him long to permanently move to Australia. He and Miata met through a mutual friend, and they have been together ever since. He proposed last year, and the two got married in November. This year, they adopted a child together. Miata knew firsthand how much adopting a young child could improve their life, and she wanted to do the same for another underprivileged child somewhere. She and Siothrún adopted 11-year-old Neela Veda from India. Neela has long, straight black hair, light brown eyes, and what you could consider a typical Indian skin tone. Neela’s father was a fisherman, and his boat got lost at sea. Her mother died three years ago giving birth to Neela’s baby brother. Sadly, the baby also died. Neela is excited about having a new home and a new family to love her.

Siothrún and Miata got a cat for Neela’s twelfth birthday. Neela decided to call the tabby cat India in honor of her birthplace.
Nico also got married this year. He and his girlfriend Lorri Grigorov have only been dating for a little over a year, but they are madly in love. He proposed on their 10 month anniversary, and she didn’t hesitate to say yes. They had an early September wedding, and it’s clear that Nico couldn’t be happier.

Ana and Colin jumped on the bandwagon, and got a pet for Ryan, Assefa, and Bekele. They decided to let the three pick it out together. For some strange reason, they decided they wanted a bearded dragon. Ana isn’t fond of reptiles, but she finally caved and allowed them to get what they wanted. They decided to call it Norbert after Hagrid’s dragon in Harry Potter.

This year, we decided to move. I got transferred to a different hospital because ours had plenty of doctors and nurses, but St. Joseph’s was highly understaffed. St. Joseph’s was a bit too far to drive to every day, so we moved to a new house closer to the hospital.

Ellie and I decided to adopt a child this year. The 13-year-old twins are from Liberia. We fully intended to adopt someone closer to Lucia’s age, but Ellie really fell in love with Miata Sia and Kollie Saa. The twins’ first names honor their mother’s tribe, and their middle names honor their father’s tribe. Sadly, their father abandoned them when they were ten, and their mother died when they were eleven because of insufficient medical care. Both children have very dark skin, black eyes, and coarse black hair.

We adopted another child this year. 16-year-old Anastasia Maryana is from Russia. She got mixed up with the wrong crowd at school, her mother found out she was drinking excessively, smoking, doing drugs, and sleeping around a bit, so she threw her out of the house. Ana tried to move in with an aunt, but her aunt proceeded to drop her off at the closest orphanage. At first, she wasn’t too thrilled about being adopted when she had so little time left in the system, but now, she’s hoping she can start over with a new life in Australia. Ana has more of an olive skin tone, straight black hair, and hazel eyes.

We adopted a young boy from Guatemala this year. Nico Osvaldo is 14. We took a vacation to Guatemala, he acted as a tour guide for us, and Ellie fell in love with him. When she found out he didn’t have a home to go back to, she insisted on bringing him home with us. He had no objections whatsoever. He loves having a family again, and he does a great job of helping take care of his new younger siblings. Nico has short dark brown, almost black hair and warm brown eyes.

We took a much needed family vacation this year. We all decided to go to Africa. Miata and Kollie wanted to return to where they were born, just to see how things had changed in the eleven years they had been gone. It was sad to see that not much was different, but at the same time, it was heartening to see how hard people from the western world were working to improve healthcare there. We didn’t spend long in Liberia before travelling to Madagascar to explore the rainforests and such.

This year was huge for our family. In January, Ana announced her engagement to her long-time boyfriend Colin Blake. She also told us she was already three months pregnant with his child. We were a little shocked to find out she was pregnant already, but we were supportive all the same. She and Colin married in June, and in early July, they welcomed little Ryan Gavriil into their family. Ana insisted on giving her child a Russian middle name, so he’d have a connection to his mother’s roots. Ryan has straight blonde hair, just like his father, but he has his mother’s hazel eyes. Ana moved in with Colin shortly after they got engaged, and the three are now living happily together.

This year, we had a huge family reunion for Christmas. We got together with my mum and dad, my eight brothers and sisters, and all of their kids. Everybody was really excited to see Ana’s baby and meet her new husband since most of them hadn’t had a chance to properly do that at the wedding. It was a lot of fun seeing everybody again, and looking at how fast everybody had grown up.

The biggest events this year centered around my job yet again. On the plus side, there was no transfer. It still wasn’t the news I was hoping for, though. My hours were cut down to 30 hours a week instead of 40. Ana and Colin adopted a child from Ethiopia this year. Actually, they adopted twins. Assefa and Bekele are 2-year-old fraternal twin boys. The two only have a first name, not a middle name. Ana and Colin gave them the middle names Samson and Anatoliy, meaning “sun” and “sunrise” respectively to show how much sun and joy they had brought into their lives. Both boys have coarse dark hair and black eyes; however, Bekele’s hair is slightly curlier than his brother’s, and Assefa has a slightly darker complexion.

This year, I accomplished my goal of putting a swimming pool in our back yard. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but putting in a pool—a heated pool nonetheless—is expensive. We finally saved up enough to make that dream possible. I use the pool every day, and Laura, Juliet, and Zuri often bring friends over to use it.

Year 22
This year was incredibly difficult for my entire family, and I’m not just talking about me, Ellie, and the kids. I’m also talking about my parents and my siblings. My brother Tyler and his wife Martha died in a horrible car crash in August. Their kids weren’t with them, thank God, but it left them in an incredible state of shock to suddenly be without their parents. If truth be told, who wouldn’t be shocked by that? It turns out that Tyler and Martha had a will written up just in case anything were to happen to them. They stated quite clearly that in the event of their death, Ellie and I were to become the legal guardians of Hayden, Noah, and Peyton. The three of them are still struggling with everything, but they’re slowly growing accustomed to living with us.

Year 23
Miata has been dating Siothrún Mcniall, a young man from Ireland, for several years now. Siothrún came here as an exchange student when he was still in secondary school, and he never returned home. Okay, he did return home for a while after he was done with the program, but it didn’t take him long to permanently move to Australia. He and Miata met through a mutual friend, and they have been together ever since. He proposed last year, and the two got married in November. This year, they adopted a child together. Miata knew firsthand how much adopting a young child could improve their life, and she wanted to do the same for another underprivileged child somewhere. She and Siothrún adopted 11-year-old Neela Veda from India. Neela has long, straight black hair, light brown eyes, and what you could consider a typical Indian skin tone. Neela’s father was a fisherman, and his boat got lost at sea. Her mother died three years ago giving birth to Neela’s baby brother. Sadly, the baby also died. Neela is excited about having a new home and a new family to love her.

Siothrún and Miata got a cat for Neela’s twelfth birthday. Neela decided to call the tabby cat India in honor of her birthplace.
Nico also got married this year. He and his girlfriend Lorri Grigorov have only been dating for a little over a year, but they are madly in love. He proposed on their 10 month anniversary, and she didn’t hesitate to say yes. They had an early September wedding, and it’s clear that Nico couldn’t be happier.

For some strange reason, they decided they wanted a bearded dragon. Ana isn’t fond of reptiles, but she finally caved and allowed them to get what they wanted. They decided to call it Norbert after Hagrid’s dragon in Harry Potter.
