I think Ellie is cute, and yes I think it's fine on its own too - Elli is an Old Norse name, after all. I like it as a short for of Ellen, Eloise or Eleanor.

Despite the pretty-popular-ness, I've always thought it was really sweet and has a sportiness to it. But it definitely needs to be a nickname, and I've heard it more often these days as a full name. Too insubstantial and vague that way, methinks.

I think Ellie is adorable, but like you, I think it needs a complete name on the bc. My fave combo is Elizabeth Eve but I also like Eleanor Sophia. Lots of others to choose from:

My favorite full form is Elizabeth. In Polish the full form for Elizabeth (Elzbieta is Ela, sometimes Eli). My friend whose name is Elisa sometimes goes by Eli.

It's too much of a nickname to work on its own, I think. I like it as a nickname for Eleanor.

Ellie is darling. I met one once. It was rare back then so being a nerd I asked her about it. Apparently everyone assumed it was from Eleanor, but it was really from Elizabeth.

My favorite full name for Ellie would be something like Elvira ("el-VEER-uh"), Elfriede or Eliane. If I know a person will be called by a safe nn, then I'm emboldened on the full name.

I know loads of Ellies so any appeal it might have has as a nickname has kind of worn away. It's in the top hundred in the UK on it's own and if you add all the Eleanors called Ellie or whatever it is the ultimate trendy nickname, basically a female version of Alfie (although I like Alfie!). It's not bad but I can't get excited about it. I do love a lot of El- names, Elizabeth, Elinor, Ellen etc. though.

I think Ellie is too nicknamey. (However I like Ella on it's own). I like it for any El- name but especially Elizabeth, Eleanor or Eliana.

I LOVE that name so much!!! my middle name is Elizabeth and i would love to go by Eli (pronounced like Ellie). It is one of my favorite names.

I love Ellie as a nickname. For probably Elizabeth, Eloise, Eleanor or Eliana.

I like it! I do think it's a bit nicknamey to be used as a full name, but nickname names are getting pretty popular (especially here in the UK - Charlie, Alfie, Lily and Evie are top names!)
