--Now that the word is out about you being a medical student, other passengers swarm around you begging for help for everything from broken bones, serious infections, and sunburns. How do you feel about the sudden responsibility of becoming island's full-time doctor, with only some of your schooling complete and little in the way of medical supplies available? And what do you think of Joel delegating jobs and taking charge?I'm feeling a little bit overwhelmed with all the new responsibilities. While I know that medical care is valuable, I haven't had too much field experience working with patients. But I guess this will be a crash course (no pun intended).
I'm glad to try to help anyone I can, but it's frustrating how little I can do sometimes. Right now, we're hardly established, so we barely have enough water, much less antibiotics. While I might be able to set a broken bone, I can't do much to help with infections, except provide first aid of sorts. As for the sun burns, that seems like an ailment that people will have to endure. They'll get tan eventually. And right now, there are more pressing matters. It's just so frustrating I was training to be a modern doctor after all. We never had to take courses in outdoor survival medicine. And now people are expecting miracles from me.Joel is to blaim for that I suppose. But I have to remember that it's not his fault we ended up here. I guess I'm glad someone has stepped up to be a leader.Keeping order is important if we want to survive. And organizing people to do work helps to keep people from duplicating some jobs and forgetting others. I'll follow Joel as long as he seems to be making smart decisions. I just hope that the others will listen to him too. The last thing we need is some sort of Lord Of the Flies-esque tribal war going on.
