[Opinions] Names in obituaries
Do you ever read the obituaries to find names? If so, what was the most interesting name you found in an obituary? The most interesting name I found in any newspaper was one from New Mexico. I found an obituary for an older Hispanic woman nicknamed Polly. It turned out that her real name was Polixena (it's the Spanish form of Polyxena). I thought that was an amazing name! The most interesting I found in my paper were a lot of the Greek names, since there's a large Greek community where I live. Some I found included Phaedra, Athanasia, and Aphrodite.

Polixena / Polyxena is cool but the meaning kinda stinks.Always liked Phaedra and Athanasia is nice!

I agree.Interestingly enough, the Athanasia and Aphrodite I found in the obituaries were sisters. They are still alive, but their father was the one who died.

Polixena and Polyxena are both cool names. I love Phaedra, and I like Athanasia as well.Aphrodite would make a good name for a pet, but I couldn't see myself naming a child that.

I recently saw a Blanche in the obituaries. No, Blanche isn't as exotic as Polixena, but I'd never seen a Blanche before.
