Fürstin Josephina can hardly believe it but it's been a year since the war ended. She is now a mother of six but little Victorius is the first one she truly wanted. She sees him as a sign of better times.
The war was so unexpected! For years the duchy had had problems with Zeerburg-Münligen but the attack came from their ally, Beckenburg, a small but very powerful duchy in the south west. This would have been her biggerst concern had it not been for her miscarriage. She feels like she will never really recover from the loss of that baby. She badly wanted it but at the same time, it was the best thing that could happen. Josephina feels so guilty for her thoughts but she is certain the baby was not Gergoriu's III child. Soon after the birth of the twins she started to go for walks with the excuse that little Gregorius wanted to see the horses in the stable. In reality the boy didn't care much for the animals but Josephina wanted to meet the stable boy Tilo Kimard. And she did. It didn't take long for their shy hellos to turn into passionate and secret meetings. Fürstin Josephina experienced true desire for the first time. But it could only end one way. When Josephina got pregant she was terrified that Gregorius III would find out. He probably would have if there hadn't been a declaration of war so shortly after her being 'ill'. It was a relief that he had to go to war with the troops. Though she was left on her own with much to do she really enjoyed her newfound freedom. She kept seeing Tilo for a while but eventually decided that it wasn't right. She was heartbroken and she suspects that Tilo felt the same way but there was nothing she could do about it.
She didn't see much of her husband during the war years. Gregorius III and his army suffered many losses and for a while it seemed like Beckenburg was conquering parts of the western duchy. However, the army was able to repel the attack and this led to a stalemate that lasted for months. In the end, no one was winning the war and three years after the declaration of war peace treaties were signed. Gregorius the III and what was left of the army could return home.
Fürst Josephina didn't know what to feel when she saw her husband again. He looked so old and tired that she felt sorry for him. It seemed like he had changed a lot. He even praised her ability to care for the family, court and country while he was away. For a few weeks Josephina really liked having her husband back again but slowly the feelings of being trapped came back and she started to long for Tilo Kimard again. This combined with the rumour that Gregorius III has an affair with one of the kitchen maids makes Josephina wish he had never come back.
