I like Magnus too, and Magnus Odin sounds like a strong boy's name. But it sounds very, very scandinavian - at least to me who live in Sweden. But if that's not a problem for you, I'd say go for it! Edit: Mange is used as a nickname for Magnus here, but I don't like it.

I really like it. If you are going with Magnus Odin as a combo, what about a nn Mo?

I like it. It's a strong, sturdy name with a gentlemanly quality. Magnus Odin is a cool combo.I don't think it needs a nickname. It isn't that long. I prefer it without one, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with Mag.

Is it a practical name though I feel has though it might be a guilty pleasure and I am not sure if its usable especially in the US

I once saw an American family with a son named Magnus in a magazine article. It seemed fine to me. Where I live, Magnus would be usable. Unusual and foreign names aren't a big deal here. I guess it depends on where you live and the people you interact with. It will stand out more if everyone you know is named James, Elizabeth, Anna, etc. and they aren't very accepting of names that diverge from the norm, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Magnus isn't so weird that the average person would be appalled by it.

My first thought is Magnus Bane from Mortal Instruments, but I don't think that's a bad thing, and at least at the moment that thought is probably limited to teenagers/young adults. I think it's a very handsome name, and Magnus Odin is even better. I'm not a fan of Mag/Maggie, but maybe Mags or Mack?

I have not heard of the Mortal Instruments but maybe I should read them.
I love the nn. Mack that is so perfect!

LoveMagnus. Think you shouldn't pair with something so obviously Scandinavian thoughI'd keep it as is but if you want a nickname Max could work
