Help[Opinions] Some new faves for you to rate and a pronunciation question
Here are some that have caught my attention. I'm in a retro phase ;) Looking forward to your comments:
Julie - so simple and pretty. I like it better than Julia. Ready for a comeback?
Robin - for a girl but I also like it on a boy. I just dislike Robyn, do you think people would spell it that way?
Carrie - would it work on its own? Or Caroline nn Carrie? Carolyn nn Carrie? Do you pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same? If so do you live in the US?
Mary - good girl-name and I like it more and more
Melissa - may be a bit dated but I love the meaning and sound
Jessie - full name
James - growing on me, no nickname

I do like Julie - maybe it should make a comeback.
I don't think people will spell it Robyn. Robin is better anyway. I don't really feel this one is ready for a comeback though.
Carrie can work on it's own and yes I pronounce them the same and live in the US.

Jessie - not so sure about as a full name. If I hear Jessie isn't short for anything I normally think boy but this spelling is girly so I don't know.
James - nice and better than any of the nicknames though Jamie can be nice.

Julie - Reminds me of mothers, because I know quite a few named Julie. I much prefer Julia.
Robin - I hate it. I've always hated it, even as a little girl. I'm not quite sure why. I can't picture it on a boy, though, definitely a girl's name to me.
Carrie - I actually love the spelling Keri. I pronounce Carrie, Kerry, Keri, etc. all the same way. I would go Caroline nn Carrie, I think it's adorable! Not a fan of Carolyn.
Mary - Too plain for me. Almost more boring than Jane.
Melissa - I think it's too dated. Not a huge fan of the sound.
Jessie - I like it, but I would definitely do it as a nickname, not a full name.
James - Absolutely love it! I agree, no nickname. I love the sound, it's very classic.
Aaron and Aron are pronounced the same.
Erin is pronounced the same as well, but I think of it as a totally different name. I was actually thinking about it a couple days ago - it only really occurred to me that they were pronounced the same when I had an Aaron and an Erin in a summer class I was taking.
Robin - I hate it. I've always hated it, even as a little girl. I'm not quite sure why. I can't picture it on a boy, though, definitely a girl's name to me.

Julie-My problem is that it's not a name. It's like naming your kid Jack or Max or Frank. I much prefer Julia.
Robin-Simple, but I like it.
Carrie-Once again, I don't like it on its own.

No, it's the French form of Julia and it's very much a name and a full name at that.

Julie - I'm the opposite: I much prefer Julia. Julia seems deep to me somehow, while Julie sounds shallow. I don't think Julie is ready for a comeback or will be for a long time, not with Julia, Juliet, and Juliana at center stage getting all the attention of modern parents.
Robin - I do prefer Robin as a nickname for Robert, but I like bird names quite a bit, so I like Robin for a girl. I don't like Robyn, either, and I think people might occasionally assume Robyn instead of Robin, but it won't be a daily thing.
Carrie - As a nickname for Caroline, Carolyn, or Carol, then yes. By itself, no. It sounds babyish.
Mary - Beautiful, stately, and strong. Mary deserves all the love she can get.

Julie -Bleh. I hate it. But I may be a bit biased, as my name is Julia and people are always trying to call me Julie. It drives me nuts.

Julie - I'm not a fan. I have an auntie named Julie who i'm not too fond of, probably doesn't help
Robin - People will spell it how the child spells it. I like Robin on both girls and boys, this spelling only
Carrie - I think It can stand on its own, though i'm not a fan. I think of the character in the Stephen King novel. I pronounce them differently, i'm from the UK
Mary -I like it but don't quite love it. I'm getting there though
Melissa - I've always been a fan of Melissa. I think it would be sweet on a baby, not dated
Jessie - Dislike
James - Like you i prefer no nickname. I really like it, but I have a really bad association with a Jamie/Jay so could never use it

Julie - It's OK, but very dated to me. My Mum has at least 5 acquaintances called Julie - all about the same age - so I find it hard to imagine it on a different age group. It could be a nice nickname, I would use it as a nickname for Juliet.
Robin - I don't really like it on a girl, but I still prefer this spelling over the Y spelling. I suppose it depends how common the Y spelling is in your area. Where I live both names are unusual so I think people would spell it like the boys name originally.
Carrie - Could work on it's own. Nicknamey names are getting common (here at least) like Lily and Evie, so I don't see why Carrie would be any different. However, I do prefer Caroline with the nickname Carrie. I pronounce Carrie and Kerry differently - Carrie with an "ah" sound and Kerry with an "eh" sound, like they're spelt - but I don't live in the US
Mary - I find it rather dull I'm afraid.
Melissa - OK but nothing special for me. It's just alright.
Jessie - Again, if other nicknames can work I don't see why Jessie is any different. It's very cute! I would prefer Jessamine with the nickname Jessie though.

Robin - It isn't a favorite for either gender for me. It just feels really dated for both.
Carrie - Of course, it can work on it's own. It actually has for years (#20 back in 1880!). I don't understand why this isn't more popular. Maybe because in the 70's/80's there were a ton of Carrie/Kerri/Kerry/Keri/Kara/Cara type names. I like it as a nickname as well. I do pronounce Carrie and Kerry the same and I live in the US.

The only one on the list that I like is Julie (my name). I love my name. It is fun and feminine. Ready for a comeback IMO.
