Just a bit before what should have been Tonio and Mariluz's wedding, a messenger arrived, bearing sad news. Mariluz's father had died of an illness, and her family requested that she return for the funeral. Mariluz was very close to her father, and when she pleaded for permission to visit her family, Tonio not only agreed but accompanied her there. But even after the funeral, Mariluz entered a period of mourning, and after a discussion, they agreed to postpone the wedding until the next year, so that everyone would have been more receptive to the joyful union instead of still having glum misery hanging over.In the ensuing months, both Claudia, Fede, and Vanozza announced pregnancy, again within a few weeks of each other. It had come to be joked as a "custom" in that pregnancies in the Medici household rarely come one at a time! Tonio and Mariluz werre very happy for them, and got even more eager for their incoming marriage.Sadly, not long after the pregnancies were announced, Vittoria was involved in a horsing accident. She was riding a newly-bought horse which turned out to be not sufficiently tamed, and fell down unto the rocks. The incident shocked the whole family, and everyone's attention is suddenly focused on Vittoria (something she didn't really enjoy). Eventually, she healed from her fall, but kept a few scars on her face and hands where she struck the jagged rocks. Thus, when the incoming babies were born, they were all named after precious Vittoria. Vanozza and Fabrizio's son was named Giuliano, Claudia and Francois' Jean-Henri (Alexandre being the honouring name), and Fede's Stefania (with the name Vittoria as the second middle name). Again, Vittoria found it a bit awkward at first, but she eventually eased into it.Not long after the birth of all the children came Tonio and Mariluz's long-awaited marriage. The wedding was celebrated, as usual, but hidden deep under the festivities was a grim undertone. Romolo had recently received news that the neighbouring Houses were growing restless, and he feared that they would take the offensive.
