I like them both. I especially like Samuel without a nickname, I think it's very handsome while Sam is a bit boring.

Melody is decent. It's not overused these days, which I like, but it strikes me as kind of bland. I prefer Elodie.Samuel is a strong, handsome name. I wouldn't use it due to popularity, and because of a bad association, but in all, I like it.

I like Melody, it's a very pleasant sounding name.
I like Sam more than Samuel but Samuel is also nice. Samuel is a fairly common name but for boys I never care whether it is or is not a common name. Most boys named Samuel probably go by Sam. I use to dislike really common names like Samuel or Thomas or Daniel or Benjamin or Matthew or Andrew. And I liked the nn more than the full names. But lately I've been disliking the nn for them and liking the long versions much more. Matthew and Andrew are both nice, though I really like Benjamin, Thomas and Daniel. I still like Ben, Thom and Dan but I prefer the long versions of their names. Especially for Thomas. Tom feels so boring but there is something really great sounding about Thomas. Even though there are many Thomas's out there, very few go by Thomas. For me Charles, Jacob and Samuel haven't gotten there yet but maybe someday. For now I prefer Charlie, Jake and Sam.
