Faith - you have more positives for Faith and less negatives. It is very soft and pretty and Fay seems incomplete and a bit too dated. And like you said you could use Fay as a nickname. I've never actually met a Faith and as far as I know I don't know anyone with it as a middle name either. I don't know why it would be pronounced Faif except maybe by a little kid who hasn't quite gotten down the th sound.
