[Opinions] Virginia
What do you think of Virginia? It used to be my favorite. Is it still usable? I think from the sound alone it would easily have made a comeback, especially because many should have a grandmother or great grandmother with the name. I wonder if it's usable because it has the word "virgin" in it which could lead to teasing. What do you think?

It's pretty and I'm sure the virgin part would lead to some teasing, but people come up w/ all sorts of things to tease a person about and it's much better than having something in the name that means sleeze or something similar...
It's not 1 of my faves, but it's likable enough it would be nice to see on someone else's child.

I love Virginia! I think it's lovely and study and feminine.
I went to high school with a Virginia and never heard any virgin comments about it.
I think if it were pronounced VER-gin-ya where the virgin sound pops out, it'd be a little more of an issue, but the standard pronunciation of Virginia doesn't really open the doors as much. There'll probably be a few comments in her lifetime, but it's a well-recognized name and can lend itself to nicknames, so I don't think "virgin" is a big issue.

It's totally usable. It's in my top 10.
I think it's beautiful. I know of one girl named Virginia and though she did endure some teasing it's suited her well and she doesn't mind so much. Personally I'd be more inclined to use it in the middle name spot, but it is a very beautiful name
I don't like it. It reminds me too much of the state and the word virgin.
Very usable. Not my favorite, but a nice name. It is a family name for me.
I think it's still usable despite having the word "virgin" in it. I'm neutral regarding the word, so I don't see it as a bad thing. Some kids might try to tease her in school, but if the nickname Virgin is the worst they can come up with, that's really not so bad. Most people end up getting teased for one thing or another growing up anyways. If it's not her name, it might be her sweater or hair or who knows what. And if they do tease her because of her name and it bothers her that much, she can always go by Ginny.
Virginia is a name with a rich history and many associations. The word "virgin" isn't the only thing that will come to mind for people. They'll probably think of the state or someone they know named Virginia as well, for example.

I love Virginia. I recently came across the name Virginia Shenandoah on a young adult girl between the ages of 18 and 22 (don't know her age exactly, I was reading it from a list) and was just delighted.
Any teasing potential is just lame. I know that teasing bothers some people for very valid reasons, but I've never been one to care that much about what other people think or say. I probably wouldn't be deterred from using as wonderful a name as Virginia.

I absolutely love it. It's so sweet, but strong, and it's domestic but fun. I've liked it for a long time and it is the name of a character (I guess you could call her) of mine, so I never really thought about using it in real life until a few years ago. And once I discovered my husband liked it too, it's totally on the list contending for the #2 spot.
I think it's totally usable and the virgin thing doesn't deter me at all. When you're a kid/teenager/young unmarried adult, that's a good thing to be imo!

My worrying part is exactly the same with you.So, not usable.
I think the "virgin" part does lend itself to pretty obvious teasing, so I would never use it.
