Sweet little kids at a daycare with a Welsh father: Megan, 13, Cadi, 9, and Ieuan, 7. Ieuan was pronounced like eye-yin with an Y in front, and Cadi was like cat. WDYT?

Ieuan is way too complicated and has too many vowels! I find it really hard to pronounce. Cadi is okay, and Megan seems really weird next to the other two.

I've met a Ieuan. I think it's a really strange name... too many vowels in one name, and the pronounciation is totally unintuitive. It doesn't help that the Ieuan I know is really annoying! It's hard to write how I pronounce it, kind of "yigh-un" (yigh, rhying with high or sky)

Yay for Ieuan! I pronounce it YAY-in since that's how I've read it should be, but I suppose that would just depend on where you were from? Anyway, I love it.

As far as I know, different regions of Wales have different takes on what is pronounced AY, and what is pronounced EYE.

Yep, they do, depends on North or South. But I knew it was for "ei" but didn't know if it was the same for "ie." When I looked Ieuan up on forvo.com (my new favorite reference guide!) the two there were both YAY-an, one was from England and the other from near Swansea at least. So not sure of where/if it would be said YAI-in.
