[Opinions] My boy/girl twin names! wdyt?
I think I've finally decided on names for my babies!
Urban Paul
Gemma Catherine
The babies will be Italian-Americans and have an Italian last name so I was trying to go for names that would fit their last name but not be too uncommon in the U.S.
What do you think? Please be honest! And if you're not a fan, can you tell me why and give a suggestion?
Thank you!

I like both! I think I slightly prefer Urbain to Urban, but both are good.
I don't particularly like the first names you've chosen, but I do like Paul, and I love Catherine. I have a bad association with Gemma, every girl I know called this has been kind of a brat. Urban is really more of a word to me, and it also reminds me of Keith Urban. Although I think that if you really love them, you should use them.
In terms of Italian names that I think would still be fine here in the U.S., I like:
Alessio/ Alessia
Alessandra
Gianna
Giovanni
Leonardo
Cassandra
Santino/ Santina
I love them
I prefer names that are more balanced in length so Urban Paul seems a bit short next to Gemma Catherine but that's just personal nit-pickyness

I've been thinking...
If Urban really is that unappealing to some, what about Deacon Paul?
Too common/trendy? Does it fit well with Gemma?
Thanks for the opinions! I really do appreciate it :)

I like Deacon Paul :)
I like Deacon much better, and yes, it goes well with Gemma.
Deacon is worse. What beethoven said. Plus it follows the random occupation name trend.
Urban, while I don't like it because of the word, is much better imo. And I would be excited to actually meet a real one.

I agree.
Deacon's way worse! Why not Priest or Rabbi
Deacon Paul is a fine combo and it does go nicely with Gemma but I'm on the "revival of Urban" train :)
OMG.
Most people here won't, but I just LOVE Deacon. I named my dog that, and sometimes I wish I'd saved it for a kid. Deke is a cute nn.
Yes, it is trendy- but I don't think thats necessarily a bad thing. I can see it getting more popular, but for now it's unusual enough.
So Deacon Paul GMV . It sounds good with Gemma. Much better than Urban. Two thumbs up.

Gemma Catherine is very pretty, I like it.
However I am not really a fan of Urban Paul, sorry. I don't like the sound of the word Urban, and it doesn't really look like a name to me. Also the meaning of the word Urban is a bit strange to use as a name. Paul is alright, just nothing special to me and it sounds a bit short with the relatively short first name.

Gemma Catherine is STUNNING. Great pick. Gemma is very popular in Aus, but i love how unusual it is in the US.
Urban on the other hand..yeah, thr literal meaning puts me off completley. I just think of urban sprawl, and cars and congestion and polution and tons of people. And it just doesn't sound like a person name to me.
U is a hard intial.

What I gather...
Hmmm, seems to be mixed reviews on Urban. I knew that one would be the harder sell. I decided on that one because we were trying to honor the grandfather whose initials are UPL without outright using his first name. Urban seemed like a good fit for that reason and because of the number of Catholic popes who have assumed the name. I also like that it's not terribly common (as someone who hasn't responded to my first name in years because I never know if someone is talking to me or the other numerous women with my name)
That being said, I do see how its literal meaning can be a put off - you guys think it's enough to not use it? I'm open to suggestions on other names you think might work with Gemma.
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

What was the first name of grandfather UPL? Maybe there is another way you could honour him besides using his initial.
Names which go with Gemma:
Gemma & Elliot
Gemma & James
Gemma & Patrick
Gemma & Paul (I know this was the middle name before, perhaps it could work as a first name?)
Gemma & Kieran
Gemma & Caleb
Gemma & Martin
Gemma & George (I don't usually like alliteration but these sound good together imo)
Gemma & Luke

Gemma Catherine is beautiful! Gemma is very nice and flows really well with Catherine. Nice name.
Urban is not my style. I tend not to be drawn to word-names. Maybe you can change my mind...what do you like about Urban?

If I'm being honest, I don't like Urban at all. It sounds a little silly being that in the US most people will probably associate it with the terms urban area or urban legends (that's my first thought anyways). However I can see it in the middle name slot. How about Paul Urban?

I actually really like them but I'm a bit concerned about how Urban would work in real life. It sounds a bit too GP or more of a middle name.
Urban Paul sounds ridiculous. It's the Urban part. Paul is very nice. I'd switch Urban to a different name.
Gemma Catherine is sweet and classy.

The names go together well. I especially like Paul and Gemma. Normally, Catherine isn't my thing, but I think it flows nicely with Gemma.
Urban is unexpected and refreshing. I think of the word "urban", but I'm aware that it's a name, so that doesn't bother me much. It's still usable.

The name Urban is great, and it can be used to honor the many popes that had that name, but I'm worried people who haven't heard the name before wouldn't 'get it'. If you are fine with that, and you think your kid will be, too, go ahead, but there are plenty of great Italian names otherwise. Since they are twins, the name Gianluca would sound GREAT with Gemma if you are okay with alliteration.
I take back what I said; a revival of the name Urban would be fantastic. it's an awesome name. disregard "I'm worried people who haven't heard the name before wouldn't 'get it'". DO IT.
agree
would be so cool. awesome combos

you really think so? I love the name too, but there seems to be alot of apprehension. I love your positive outlook! I might just go with it and stop second guessing myself.
I feel like, Urban is a really cool, great name, and somebody needs to start the revival, right? if not, who will? But if you are worried about apprehension, I will make it my responsibiliy :D there are plenty of nicknames too if it comes to that.
Urban is a silly name to me, at least in English. In my head, I would secretly be thinking "Is his sibling's name Rural?" Paul is nms. It seems boring to me. However, I have a very good friend named Paul, so I can't help but think of a charming, sweet young man who is very caring and thoughtful. It's a solid name.
I love Gemma Catherine! I think it's the perfect balance between a more modern-sounding name and a distinguished classic.
