[Opinions] Riley

I know quite a few Rileys, but they're all boys. I can't say I like this on a girl, and if I heard of a girl Riley I'd probably assume it had an alternate spelling like Rylie or something. If you want to use Riley on a girl though, I don't think it's impossible. Lots of girls are being names more 'boyish' names (and Riley has the more girlish "ley" ending), so it won't be seen as weird. And the other spellings might just make people ask her how to spell it, instead of spelling it wrong.
Despite the fact that it's not uncommon for girls, I've only known male Rileys.
For about five years in the 90s, Riley seemed full of pluck and breezy charm, but that's all faded away. Riley is overexposed and very tired on a boy; for a girl, it's worse.

I find Riley ok on a girl. I don't hate it and I see the appeal but I like it much more on a boy. I would hate to see it cross over to solely a girl name.
I personally know 2 - a male about 30 and girl who is almost 2. I see it in the birth announcements a lot though!

I feel like I know as many Rileys as I know -ayden variants. Too many! I dislike the name to begin with, and then it gets worse for me the more of them I meet. I'd say 75% of the Rileys (of all spellings) I've met have been boys. Personally, I think it's even worse on a girl. Wow that was negative, sorry.
On 1 hand, it kinda sounds cute... on the other hand, I have images of it as a boys' name... but at the same time, I can kinda see its appeal on a girl.
I really dislike Riley on a girl. I don't especially like it on a boy either, but it's definitely better.
Also there are so many spellings that people might spell it wrong sometimes. This is going to be even more of a problem if you hate some spellings.

With any spelling, the name on a girl would be trendy and distasteful. Like Kaylie, this name has no substance or upward mobility. It's so unimpressive, in fact, that I would not want to associate with a parent who would make such a lowly choice. Boo!
