[Opinions] Re: Mary
in reply to a message by Pie
I love Mary and Marie. I'm not that fond of Maria, it has a dark blue color to it which isn't very attractive. It seems so cold.
I love Marie pronounced MAH-ree, which is the way it is pronounced in Switzerland. I would even use it if people would pronounce it that way, but they just wouldn't. Mairi could work, but I don't like the way it looks. I don't really like the look of Mari either.
I used to love Miriam, but not as much anymore.
Mary - I know many, but most are over 50. Too many to count, but as I said, a lot older. I only know one younger Mary who is in her early 20s.
Oddly enough I know about 10 girls with Mary as their first name who are all between the ages of 15 and 49 but none of them go by Mary. I think it's common as a first name, used by religious people especially in the South, but they give their daughters a trendy middle name and call her by that.
So far I know: Mary Walker (Walker), Mary Elle (Elle, she shares her name with an actress who is also Mary Elle "Elle" (Elle Fanning)), Mary Hannah (Hannah), Mary Ashleigh (Ashleigh), Mary Faith (Faith), Mary Grace (Grace), Mary Lee (Lee) and several others.
I knew some of them for years before I found out about their silent first name. I wonder how many other girls I know are actually Marys.
In some states in the South Mary is still common while in most others it's not in the top 100.
Marie - one of my best friends who pronounces it MAH-ree and who is actually Marie-Jeanne (she's 25). Then a Marie-Therese (early 20s), Marie-Ange (under 10), Marie-Claire (teen) and 3 Maries but none of them are the same age. Lots of girls who have this as a middle name.
Maria - a Maria Sophie (mid 20s) and three Marias (over 40, over 40, over 50). Two girls named Anna-Maria (12 and early 20s). Also I know quite a few people with this as a middle name.
Miriam - 4, all between 16 and 30
Mirjam - 2, both early 20s.
