[Opinions] Re: Mary

I like Maria (used to be my favourite name), Miriam, Minnie, Marianne, Marika, Marianna, Mhari and Mary itself.
Living in Ireland I know a lot of Marys.
Also lots of people called
Maura
Máire
Mary _____ (Mary Ellen, Mary Anne, Mary Margaret, etc)
Marie (Mar-EE)
Marie (MAR-ee)
Marian
Maureen
Máirín
Máire _______or _______ Máire (Máire Áine for example)
Maura, Maureen, Marie (both ways), Marian are common in older woman - usually their real name is Mary.
I was in school with a girl called Maria. It is more common amongst immigrants here now. My husband works with a Russian guy who has a daughter called Maria. He told me they wanted a name that worked in Ireland and Russia and he liked the fact that there were so many diminutives.
I had at least 4 great-aunts called Mary (one went by Minnie). I have an aunt Mary Teresa who goes by Maureen.
