I woke up this morning thinking about the name Hyacinth. What do you think?

I love it. I have noticed through the internet, as is apparent in this thread, that it's very tied to Keeping Up Appearances in the U.K. I'd never heard of that before and I'm not sure how widespread recognition of that show would be in the U.S., but it would probably be enough to deter me from using it anyway in the event that a future child named Hyacinth may want to one day visit or even move to the U.K. It's a shame, because I think it's an absoluteley awesome name otherwise. Even though I would definitely use it on a girl were I to ever use it, I love that it's a flower name derived from a male saint, because floral names for boys don't seem to be very common at all. Also, as corny as this sounds, I think it could be a cute, interesting way to honor a Cynthia.

Not a fan... Feels kinda clunky and awkward and makes me think of the snotty wanna-be upper class, but really not so hot character on Keeping Up Appearances.

I like most floral names, and this one is no exception! I think it's quirky and kind of out-there, but it's nice as an unexpected floral.

It's forever tied to Hyacinth Bucket from "Keeping up Appearances" for me. When I see it, I just picture Hyacinth picking up her "slim line telephone" and shrilling "'Bouquet' residence, the lady of the house speaking! No, this is not the Chinese take-away." It's prettier as Jacinta, but there are other, better flower names out there.

Like her sister Violet "The one with the Mercedes, sauna and room for a pony." lol

And a musical bidet. Classical, of course :D.

Ugh...I never liked this name. It sounds awkward.

I'm a sucker for names that end in 'th' and this is no exception- it's unexpected and quite lovely!!!

Keeping up AppearancesThat's what it makes me think of. So it's kind of a funny old lady feel, which I actually like about it. But I swear I can smell hyacinths when I look at it, which is totally overpowering and makes it too dainty and frilly for me.I do kind of like Hyacinthe on a boy though.

I have a (male) ancestor named Hyacinth on my mom's side. Not sure if there's an "e" on the end or not, I forgot.

Ditto on Hyacinth Bucket ("Bouquet")!

Yeah, Hyacinth Bucket is my first association (even though I've never seen Keeping Up Appearances!). I think it looks strange - the Hy part looks awkward to me. I don't like it for being too old fashioned as well.

I like the sound but not the way it looks.
