I really like Emery for a boy much more than for a girl. I also love Emil / Emile, Emilio, Emiliano, Emmerich and Emerson. My favorites are Emilio and Emmerich. Emerson is one of the few -son names that I really love. I love Emery but I'd personally only use it for a boy. The only reason I'd feel a little odd using it is that it reminds me of the nail files called Emery Boards. Quinn is similar to Emery. More girls are currently being named Quinn than boys are. Quinn is much more a male name to me, just as Emery is. So I wouldn't not use Emery just because more girls are currently being given this name. Also for a boy or a girl this name is so uncommon that I don't think people really consider it more for one sex than the other.

Had to mention that for Emmerich I also love the spelling Emeric even though I wouldn't pronounce it the French way.
