Help[Opinions] Holly
Always loved it, but am just thinking of it again. What do you think of Holly? Do you prefer Holly or Hollie? I like both spellings, but Holly is nicer.
Oh I would definitely use it any time of the year. Do you think that's weird? I just don't see why you would use a name you love just during the christmas season.
What I find weird about this name is how it gets so popular around christmas. I mean it was the number 1 baby name in the UK in december but in total I think it didn't even make the top 20. I find that so weird I mean if you really loved Holly you wouldn't care if your child was born in december or not and if you didn't, why would you just use it because it's christmas?
This is also the case for some others I like: Autumn, for example. I would use it any time of year because I like it.
Generally do you think you should only name your daughter May, Autumn, Summer etc if she was born during that season?

I don't think that it matters when she is born in terms of using seasonal names. I would use Autumn or Summer even on babies born in January. I actually think it's weirder to name a child after the month they were born in. Less weird with seasons just because they're longer.
I have always loved Holly, I think it's very sweet. It's been my favorite girls H name for as long as I can remember.

I love the name Holly, if it wasn't my cousin's name I'd consider it.

I like Holly. I think it is a bit dated in the US (70's/80's) but definitely not unusable. I don't think it is too common. I think I've only known 2 -both about 30.
I think Holly can be used anytime of year. I personally would only use a season name in that season (except May/Mae and maybe August) but my sister thinks it is silly to do that. (I asked if her friend April was born in April and she thought that would be stupid). And I know 2 Summer's - one has a June birthday and the other has a February birthday. The one with the June birthday, I think would have been Summer no matter when she was born though.

My name is Natalie and I was born in early autumn. Many people assume I was born around Christmas, but the association with Christmas has really never been there for me. I also have an Aunt Holly who was born in July. I think it's usable year-round even though folks might associate it with winter holidays. I think of it as a nature name, and not necessarily a "seasonal name."
I adore Autumn, Winter, and August (b) and would really consider using them regardless of birthday. October and September are actually two guilty pleasures of mine, aswell.
If anything, I think of Holly as being slightly dated. I don't feel it's too common, and a TV show my sister and I watch together has helped Holly regain her youth to me.

I've met people named Holly who weren't born around Christmas time, so I don't think it's weird to name someone born in a month other than December or in a completely different season Holly. It's a nature name, not just a "Christmas" name.
I definitely prefer Holly to Hollie. Holly looks more substantial.

I like it. I only like Holly because it's the name of the plant.

I like Holly. I have only met one and she wasn't born around Christmas but she hates when at Christmas time everyone sings Holly Jolly Christmas around her. I think of Holly more as a plant name like Lily, Rose, or Ivy. Not like a certain time of year name, so it seems perfectly fine to use it all year round. As for names like May, Summer, Autumn, etc. I'm torn because it seems rather silly to name your kid Autumn if she was born in Spring but it seems very uncreative and uncaring to just name your kid about what ever season they were born. Like you didn't really think about it. I don't know but I do find many of those names lovely like May, August (on a girl), Summer, Autumn, and lately June has been on my radar.

I think Holly is better than Hollie as spelling goes. It's not on my love list, but it's likable on other people's children.
I don't find Holly super common. Have only met a few... Unless a name actually has the concept of being born at that time in the meaning (like Natasha), I'd use it at whatever time.
